Portfolio Project

Hi guys. I'm working on a new personal project for my portfolio. I plan on creating a realtime interactive series of scenes based on David Lynches Lost Highway. I've started out with the female character's base mesh. It's still early stages but I was hoping some of you might be able to offer some critique or advice on what I've done so far?

    Proportions are important.

Thanks Snader. Yep have to agree, seeing that comparison, it looks like I'll need to resize a few things, mainly her head seems to be off.

Don't think this way. You can avoid proportions if you think this adds something to your work.

You mention Lynch, does he works like any others in his movies ? No. (And it has nothing to do with his conventional skill.) Most of people hate his work, saying its psycho-masturbation (I kinda agree with that, haha) but he has something others do not have.

Standard proportions are important if you want or need to do something realist ; now someone told you it was important you can avoid it and work on something more colorful, metaphoric.

If you want to follow current fashion then yes, "proportions are important" and you will have to review almost all the character topology : head size and form, legs, body, etc.

Good luck whatever you choose !

i dont agree. you need to first understand the rules before you begin bending them to get a point across.

the breasts are starting WAY too high, and are too big in your mesh. Also, her head is too small and neck too long. Shouldn't take too long to fix. Looks pretty good.

Nonsense. As you can see, this model has ok basic topology and modeling. This is not bad, it's average. So, in this condition, Snader knows the "rules" even with some imperfections. As I say, it depends on what people want, not on what "rules" say. But well, if you want to work in the game industry, which is really obsessed with the "rules" most of time, then listen to this restricted sense of art.

Well, I'll follow your updates to check what you decide !

Whose to say you can't learn the rules as you go along? That's what I did for the most part and probably a lot of the other old Polycounters on here aswell. Then again, I'm usually wrong.

It's been a while since I posted an update on this piece. Since my last post I did some tweaking to the proportions, sculpted out some more of the smaller elements such as her hands and feet, worked some more on the face. I'm a lot happier with the way she's looking now. Let me know your thoughts.

I'm just going to throw out that I think this is odd subject matter for a portfolio piece.
