I may have been waiting for this movie since I was six years old. Come to think of it, I may have written a treatment for this when I was six years old.
- And then the bad giant monsters come out of the sea! And they break up all of the buildings and stuff! But the good guys come and they have aeroplanes and guns and rockets! And and ...And giant robots! And the robots punch the bad monsters away KaPOW!
slightly off topic but, does anyone remeber a TV series from around 2004-5 that was about plesiasors or dragons or something coming up from the sea floor?
one of the main characters was an oil rig welder and his brother got grabbed by one.
anyway the series got canceled after 2 or 3 shows, cant remeber the name and want to google it to try and find the plot summary since they never got to reveal what was going on.

Hmm, looks pretty dumb to me. Not a fan of the monster design or renders. Notice how they're kept in shadow/smoke/back lit to cover up the bad models and textures. Lots of game references in it as well, with the GlaDos voice and all that (isn't that copyrigthed), also the room on the robot reminds me alot of the room from the starcraft 2 cinematic trailer . I normally like guillermos movies but this just looks Battleship bad to me.
Just out of curiosity, what exactly is it you guys love about it?
You're awfully negative, Wasker. I think it's fair to assume that the lighting and atmospheric effects art artistic choices rather than some inept way to cover up issues with the models and that Legendary would have worked with Valve to get the correct filters for Ellen McLain's voice.
Simply put the movie looks sincerely, unabashedly fun, which is something that sets it aside from the Battleships and Transformers of the world. The fact that Del Toro is attached mean that there's a very good likelyhood that it'll do exactly what it sets out to do.
Yes I know, sorry Jackablade, haven't had my morning coffee yet.
I know art is subjective but the designs I see in this trailer just looks bland to me. If you compare the trailer to another Guillermo del Toro movie, like Pan's Labyrinth you'll find so many fresh designs and scenes just in the trailer. The robots and monsters in the pacific rim doesn't have that same freshness to them.
Everything about it just looks like your average Hollywood summer action movie to me.

I think the designs are MEANT to be kind of a throwback.
50% Godzilla
25% Robot jox
10% Every giant robot kids cartoon/show
5% The last part of Fallout3 (wake the giant robot and help it go on a rampage)
5% Iron Giant
I dunno, the robots look kinda retarded. They're throwbacks, but not enough to have much charm; just have to see them moving more to get a final impression. Also that and I have the feeling it's going for an overly dark and serious vibe which is typically American. Take a lighthearted and campy genre and try to make everything srs business.
I agree, it looks a bit too serious for its own good. Something about the whole thing just seemed ... off. I can't quite put my finger on it yet, but I'm excited for the next trailer.
enough with the feckin' trailer BWAWWMS!! it's like they tried to hold back a bit in this one and change the sound a bit, but no dice. bad trailer designers! bad!

Yeah, they didn't waste any time with it either. "Oh hey Warner Brothers Logo-" BWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMM
...wait...you aren't suggesting an evangelion movie would be less than 100% japanese influence are you? because that lacks sense, sir.
but yeah...it looks like fun. and that Glad0s!
my kids are going to FREAK OUT
no no no, i just said an evangelion movie would be better than this, just as plain as that. I think i should have wrote in another paragraph that this movie has 100% japanese influence.
I also think the robot designs are not that great.
Real Steel, 2011, is a film i remembered when i watched this trailer.

Uhh... it's a kids movie man. What do you expect?
I don't know about you, but when I was 10 I loved all sorts of Robots, Transformers, Thundercats, He-Man, that kind of stuff. Do I still like kids stuff now? Hells no, I'm a grown-up. But I'm also not the target audience for that stuff anymore. Kids are.
This movie would have blown my mind if I had seen it when I was 9, and it'll blow my little cousin's mind when I take him to see it.
But as far as a thought-provoking artistic movie with interesting dialog, great cinematography, amazing acting, deep plots... can't expect any of that from a kids movie.
is this a kids movie? I didnt realise that, I thought it was more like transformers and aiming at a wider audience. I do feel like the robots are rather uninspiring shapes but Im all up for some robot vs monster sillyness anyway

Dude Knows his damn audience. GlaDOS woot!!!

I see a lot of Evangelion inspiration in there, maybe it's just me.
I'd like to get a better look at the creatures!
You better stay out of this thread, too, then. Before you know it, you might see a spoilery image.

Godzilla reboot is slated for a 2014 release.

Super excited for Pacific Rim. I've been on Youtube almost every day for that and the Man of Steel trailer.
If anyone's interested, there's a 170 page thread on it here. Lots of info on the bots and stuff

I'm sure an evangelion movie would be better than this. Giant robots vs giant monsters, this is japanese influence 100%.

As far as I know only one of the robots is American, the rest are from other countries.
will beat shit out of every other robot any time.
