The only thing is missing the crowd. Technicians, pilots, etc. That would bring the life in it, but I know, it's a different story. Still frekin' nice work!
What's next?
Certainly a lot of care, attention and hard work that's gone into this project, well done! It looks great, really like the 'cool' feel that the blue hues and atmospherics give it. I second what JasonLavoie says, in that your metals might benefit from a little more specular attention, maybe something to focus on in your next scene. Congrats on the great enviro!
Great job man! Turned out great but could use some work to take it to the next level.
I would echo what jason said a lot of the materials do look soft and dont have too much defintion i would take another pass at them specifically the spec/gloss passes.
Though I was hoping that the nice oroange keycolor would be more prominent. The strong blue lighting takes away much saturation from the orange. But I guess this was intended.
Wow such an awesome response! Thank you guys a TON! hah. This project has been in progress for about a year so I'm glad it's finally at a point I'm proud of. I learned a ton about what my weaknesses are and what I'm going to focus on with the next one.
vemadesignThank you You seriously have one of the best portfolios hah. Love your work!
JasonLavoie Yessir there are pieces that are alittle matte looking for sure. I'll probably give it one more tweak sometime in the future.
Theodoric haha wish I had the time/skill to add a bunch of people in here. I was going to make some humanoid droid guys but decided against it.
Trevelyan . Thank you! Yeah I think I'm going to work on a smaller scene next, and really touch on alot of the material definition issues I had with this one.
ae. Thanks! Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm going to be taking another pass at it later to touch on some of these issues. LOVE the work you did on halo 4. This scene was obviously heavily influenced by that game.
chrisradsby Thank you Means a ton coming from you! Really excited to see what you guys do with the division!
DavidBrumbley Ah man thank you so much! Its awesome to have a bungie guy tell me I nailed it.
Slave_zero Yeah I didnt want the orange to be too aggressive and make the scene look more gamey than it already does if that makes sense. Thank you!
Squals Thank yoU! Yeah there were times where I wanted to give up but luckily I have some friends who kept me motivated and punched me in the gut...inspiring me to finish it ha.
Holy cow that was a lot of work I'm sure man. Great job all the way. I tend to agree on the lighting maybe needing a bit more orange ambience to "warm" the scene up just a little since there is machinery and stuff running/giving off heat. Sweet portfolio piece for sure. I think this would get you a job in the industry if you don't already have one.
spectre1130 Thanks! Yeah I'm currently an environment artist working on Hawken. But I work on my environment art skills in my freetime as well to improve as best as I can.
What an absolutely awesome environment of epic proportions, i missed the finalized screenshots for some reason.
The environment art execution and quality of the assets is really good, top notch even, some of the best bakes I've seen for env in a while!
Can't say I like the lighting too much, but I know it's down to personal taste. The range of brightness and colors is very narrow, everything looks tinted blue, instead of being lit with blue lights, if that makes any sense.
Another thing that lacks a bit is the materials, even thought everything is supposed to be chromes, metals and painted metals, all the surfaces read very much like concrete to me.
You had some really great opportunities to mess around with some more material variety, plastics, rubbers, fibers and more shinier metals. I think some material love and more attention to gloss maps to get sharper reflections could REALLY make this scene pop and make the assets look better not the other way around.
Great stuff, and absolutely great achievement for one guy only! Really impressive!
