This is really discouraging Great model! I'm wonder, do you changed base model or its just her abdomen and hair going on top of her? I thought that this part shouldn't be changed. Try to add more of her old colors to the amour. If she lacks anything its color variations. I would love to see wires if You dont mind.
Add more red? Maybe if I added another red stripe to her back legs? Honestly, I was thinking I added too much red, as I have the stripes on her front legs that aren't usually there.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where it might look good? I worry with all the blues/purples in the metal, adding red would be too much
Man, thats one of those things that I really really wish I had heard earlier. I'm not sure if I'll have time to add red or not at this point
Also- here's the wiress prrrszalony I love seeing them myself- I also included an image of the part of broodmother that can't be changed. You can replace the entiire abdomen.
Love this set so much!!! Why have I never seen this thread before? So hoping you get it all uploaded!
As for the red.. you can try paining a "stencil" symbol on the back abdomen part of the armour. EG: Skull, or crossbones or whatever. Or grab the knee cap armour and ad some red there. Something to break up the constant flow of purple, grey desaturation. The thing with the tips of her legs is pretty hard to see from top down, so adding a bit of saturation to the knees might be good
Have a play but get ready to upload it asap if you feel it's not working like you envisioned
Thanks Anuxinamoon! I appreciate the suggestion. I'm not sure if a stencil would be too controversial or not XD, I know very little about the dota community.
Ok- this is the final texture- I had to crank up the saturation, it was coming up with no color information in game. Playing around with masks now and getting LODs together. Toph's working on a name
Minor critic you could probably ignore but something is being done to the shadowing like their is no depth to the darks and it's really bugging my eyes, maybe it is my monitor but it almost looks like you have no darks the only real dark I see is behind the legs in the back view.
Maybe in-game shots will help me out.
Really like this to bad I hear that character is squishy not cool guess he just needs backup to be awesome, idk.
Heh, yeah $!nz, I don't have any lights in the scene there- I'm so picky about lighting...it'd take me time... I figure I'll give the attention to the final shot. Having the masks on there really makes a difference too... can't wait to show you guys that
And it's in! So glad to have my entry up in the workshop. Tomorrow after work *if I have time* I'll try posting pictures of in game screenshots! In game it has a spec color that I was unable to get from the shader I was using I really like how it looks in game, so getting those images added is a huge priority!
Fantastic set! It is really something new, all other set were to similar to original character. This one really stands out! I hope it will be added. Giant freaking metal spider rocks!!!
Yes- but my comment was that if it managed to place for this contest. I was under the impression those items will be receiving stats. However- I may be mistaken.
You are. Items in Dota 2 will absolutely never ever have stats of any sort, they will always be cosmetic.
People would lose their minds if anything had stats.
With that out of the way, this set is absolutely gorgeous! A mechanical Broodmother skin got turned away by the community once because they didn't feel it fit the world, but this one being an armored set, and how well I think it matches the world, I have high hopes for it. Beautiful work.
Yeah Crystel did a fantastic job. I'm so proud. Thanks everyone for the great posts. And thanks to those who suggested refinement on the color design to fit Valves requirements better.
Ah, thanks for pointing that out warchamp7- I was thinking the tf2 items had stats, so why not on dota items. Also, this on the contest details confused me- "Special Polycount rarity versions of their items above & beyond the self-made rare items already in the game." BUT what you say makes sense, and I can imagine that probably is the case here I just really hope people like it enough for this to go through.
So far it seems to be well received from what I can tell, but I've also seen some really nasty comments about it too
But yeah, I'm glad you like the results Toph. I think you had a really strong concept!

Nice job on getting everything into budget Crystel! :P I can't imagine fitting all those shapes into that budget being too easy.
