Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion, adding the legendary Star Wars franchise to the entertainment giant's stable of characters. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by Founder George Lucas.
Based on Disney's closing price on Oct. 26, the deal is valued at roughly $4.1 billion. Disney will pay half the deal value in cash and issue 40 million shares of Disney to pay for the deal.
At first I thought it was a joke, then I read the FoxNews article.
It was FoxNews, So then I read a more credible source seems legit.
Holy ¢r@p!!
is Lucas dying? I ... I'm speechless. I've always wanted to work at two places ILM and Pixar now both are owned by Disney.
Disney has done nothing but improve the quality of stuff they bought so far, hence why they have loads of money, hence why they can buy stuff. Maybe if Lucas Studios did the same thing...I mean lets face, chiming in on the pockets of your fans will only get your so far, newer generations aren't exactly going to love SW if the best thing they mustered so far a Cartoon Show and Kinect games that only adults will get.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised of EP7 actually shows how just because some silly Emperor and Death Star got destroyed, it didn't change anything, or the Galaxy didn't get filled up with Unicorns and Ponies as many tend to believe. The Empire being in debt because of the cost of making the Death Star was too high never made any sense for me.
I'm optimistic honestly, there is no way this could get worse. Maybe stay the same, or dare I say, improve, but no way it will get worse then it already is.

Not dying but focusing on other things besides Star Wars. He's taken quite a beating over the franchise and has said publicly quite a few times over the last few years he is going to focus on his education foundation, Edutopia.
They still get a pretty bad rap from shoving princesses but honestly, some of their greatest work as been on their recent princess titles. Princess and the Frog and Tangled where great.
hahaha that's hilarious and weird... My daughter plays with Star Wars as much as she plays with Disney Princesses and Barbie. Leia is one of her favorite characters and the universes can't help but cross over in my house. But it's still kind of weird to think of them as officially in the same family? But then again I felt weird like that when they took on Marvel and that worked out fine.
Disney CEO Robert Iger briefly discussed Disney's plans for game development using the intellectual properties acquired in the acquisition, saying, "We're likely to focus more on social and mobile than we are on console. We'll look opportunistically at console, most likely in licensing rather than publishing, but we think that given the nature of these characters and how well known they are, and the storytelling, that they lend themselves quite nicely, as they've already demonstrated to the other platforms."
I have to say, I'm quite ecstatic about this. I absolutely love Star Wars , so hopefully this might lead to something fresh and interesting if it is given to some good people. I truly hope they will get back to the aesthetics of the old trilogy, since I loved that junkyard-look and the fantastic atmosphere of these films.
Not too worried about this; the Star Wars movies have always been pretty cheesy/disney-esque. I think worst case scenario we'll get something like John Carter.
I was just hoping we'd eventually see a darker and grittier trilogy (I know I know, dark and gritty has been done to death but I love it). Oh wells. Hopefully 1313 satisfies my hunger for a more mature Star Wars.

John Carter was ok, nothing special, but they Marketing Failure Killed it.

I'm worried that's the best case scenario. Disney hasn't got a good track record with big-budget action films of this type and managing to create a catastrophe the scale of John Carter out of such rich material is not a good sign. I think Tron Legacy is probably the best theatrical film of this type Disney Pictures have thrown out in quite a few years
To be honest I'm not too concerned about it, they've certainly been treating the marvel liscence with what seems to be some respect, as long as they get some decent writers and directors in we could be in for a nice reboot in the vain of the original series.... Or it could be terrible, one of those, mabey.
I'm more worried about the star wars projects, namely 1313, in development being affected by this, hopefully that won't be the case.
I suspect Paramount have some manner of ownership there, so it's possible you'll now never see another one if it is indeed contractually split between the two entities.
Howard the Duck sitcom with Darkwing Duck.
Let the cross breeding begin!
.
LOL.
He looks kind of sad in that video I say he's had a good long run either way. Looking forward to some new StarWars stuff thanks for the heads up.
This thought is foremost on my mind and I'm quite shocked that nobody else has expressed any concern over the unforeseen consequences of Disney having such a large monopoly on our culture. After all, they are the reason we have effectively perpetual copyright terms with nothing new entering the public domain. It's a dark day indeed ladies and gentlemen.

I hope you were being sarcastic...
If you define a couple of fictional universes to be part of our culture (instead of more real-life achievements that actually have value and changes on a socio-chronic scale of things), then we do have dark days indeed ahead of us.

Honestly, it will probably be a good thing to get the series out of Lucas' hands, even though I'm no big fan of Disney.
あの。。。 forgot how to embed Youtube video =3
Maybe everyone should have been nicer about the prequels?
Lucas just retired too.
Well, maybe we can finally get some re-releases of the orignal movies in their true form now.
Not sure/or optimistic about episode 7 at all.

Ever since Disney bought ESPN they've had the money to stop "managing their vault" and have started producing quality stuff again, even go so far as to innovate in some pretty cool new ways.

Also I thought this was pretty funny.

I was actually thinking the exact same thing. it would be silly for them to not take advantage of that.
Leia's now a Disney Princess.
Ahahahaahaaa

^ What Jacque said. Here's to hoping that whatever Disney does with Episode 7 washes away the pain of the prequels!
holy crap, that explains both the Lucasfilm & Marvel purchases!

Thanks Oniram for the link to the conference call.

also, is disney going to own everything now?
