The Legacy of Midas
In the early years of King Ostarion Empire, he came upon the golden kingdom of King Midas. Ostarion knew that in order to expand his empire he would need wealth and no other realm had it in more abundance than that of King Midas, the man with the golden touch.
Osterion realized soon after beginning his campaign against the Golden Kingdom why no other would be conqueror had succeeded thus far in claiming the fortune and lands of King Midas. You see no matter how many garrisons, brigades or even armies that Ostarion's forces defeated there would always be more soldiers willing to join the fray on Midas's behalf.
Midas could pay any price for the best soldiers, bounty hunters, rogues and mercenaries. In the end Midas would always have "more".
So Ostarion devised a cunning plan to assassinate Midas and therefore cut off the golden kingdoms source of wealth once and for all.
Ostarion along with a group of his best men managed to sneak into the palace but were discovered before they could reach the thrown room. A bloody battle ensued as Ostarion and men his hacked and slashed their way through Midas's forces. In the end only Ostarion himself was left standing, his men having died in the service of their king and his foes having either fallen to his blade or fled at the site of Ostarion at full force. It would seem that gold could not buy loyalty.
Ostarion broke open the doors to the thrown room and there was Midas sitting on his golden thrown, now in his twilight years, looking bedraggled and worn from the war that Ostarion had brought to his lands.
Ostarion strode up to Midas, held is mighty blood soaked sword aloft and asked "Any last words?" to which Midas replied "No, no words!"
All of a sudden Midas shot out and grabbed Ostarion's arm. His arm at once started to turn to gold. Ostarion, with his free hand, took his sword and cut off Midas's hand. Midas clutched at his now amputated forearm, screaming in agony and collapsed on the floor.
Ostarion meanwhile realized to his own horror that Midas's touch was continuing to turn him to gold despite their contact having been severed. Ostarion in a mad rush to stop the spread, hacked at his own shoulder all the way to the bone. Dropping the now semi golden sword he tore at his mutating flesh, ripping off the golden limb, leaving nothing but it's skeletal remains behind.
To Ostarion's dismay, once the searing hot pain had subsided, he found that he still had full use of his arm despite the muscles and tendons having been removed.
Thus was the Skeleton King born, over the years shedding the rest of his "weak" flesh leaving nothing but the iron hard bony remains of his skeleton. Ostarion now lives for no reason other than to expand his empire leaving nothing but the bones of his fallen enemies behind.
The Skeleton King wears the golden shell of his once severed arm as a reminder of the weakness of flesh. This is the legacy that Midas has left him with.
The Lord of Bones marches on, now and forever, golden sword and armor en toe, ever expanding his empire of bone.
:shifty: ps: It is rumored the the hand of Midas was stolen from the coffers of the Skeleton King. They say that it is either traded or taken from one adventurer or another, it would seem that the wealth it bestows does not go unnoticed for very long.

Sorry for the twelve page essay but I needed to get that idea written down so that I could stay true to the concept. I've tried to stay true to the lore of DOTA as well as adding my own personal twist.
Concepts and modeling will follow.

Really cool concept though, I can't wait to see where you take this!
Added the glove and scratches.
1. Mixed Black 'n Gold
2. All Gold
3. All Black
Would really like some feedback. Let me know what you think.
I'm not really sure about the arm, but the rest looks great!
Only the small details won't really be seen, if you look at the maximum texture size for all the parts. Waiting to see something in 3d
Anyway I'll have a better idea once I get things going in modeling. I'll hopefully have some more to show during the week.
As far as the spread of the gold goes, I kind of went with the safe route and stopped the spread at the shoulder and on some of the sword that cut the gold away. Unfortunately there is no item slot for a chest piece and if I add too much Asymmetry on the head then it will hinder me when it comes to texturing. I also didn't want any of the actual skeleton to be gold because that's the impervious magical part and it shouldn't change.
@ Andyk125 Yip that's just a paint over in photoshop.
Can't wait to see more work
I'm almost done with the low poly work. I should have an update pretty soon.
Yea, I guess you should make them deeper and bigger or just bigger/bolder. Hope thats on a layer you might be able to just increase the scale and be good to go.
For now here's a small update. Forearm sculpt is done.
And here's the sword in game. I haven't touched the masks yet.
can't wait to see it in game
Here's each of the finished items in-game:
I don't know about winning. There are some extremely good entries but I would like to make it onto the store even if it's not through this competition.
