Hey man! cool stuff Maybe have the AO of the individual planks ( the fiber) turned down a bit? Don't really know what style your going for, but these almost read as borderlands right now.
Agree with the nail adding as well!:)
thanks! I mainly used the Clay brush - love it. building up forms/ chipping edges and stuff then go in and trim it with trimDynamic, flatten stuff out.the grain is just the standard brush with Zsub.
well Highpoly is pretty much finished, might be some parts that need some polish. only a crappy viewport render, going to do something more fancy later. also started blocking out the strap
some meh from me. just started working on the diffuse, mostly in the neck area. it was recently pointed out to me that this piece is just a huge waste of UV space and probably not worth the time and space it takes but eh..going to finish it anyway I think
need moar tweaking! :< think I might take this into unreal were I have more control over the reflections. gonna start building the highpoly for the shoulderstrap next
just some very small things, but if this guitar would have been used:
-emg pickups usually have a bit of noise on them, either just very subtle in diffuse or really subtle in the spec.
-Light scratches on the back, this always happens over time due to belt buckles and such.
-Light scratches under the strings/right side, this area gets a bit worn over time due to the pick sometimes hitting the guitar itself.
probably just in the spec, since this is usually something you only notice once you start spinning the guitar around int the light.
thanks for the feedback! I actually have all these thing but I realize now that they are probably way too subtle ^^ yes I agree that the fretboard should have more discoloration, my own guitar has a lot of it xD going to push it more! going to throw in some more pollies on the knobs, they kinda stand out.
Started working on the hellchick again this is my first attempt at making a face so I know there are probably a lot of errors but Im learning a lot and having fun!
here are some maya screenshots. she kinda got the crazy eyes hehe
I like a lot of your work in this thread- I actually like the amount of AO you initially had on your planks. The stylized look and dark outlines reminds me of Borderlands. The Geth looks really nice too; I like how you went from a clean model in the beginning and dirtied it up. Nice work!
The face on your hellchick needs work- it looks like you modeled half the face from an image then mirrored it over and left it that way. That usually makes the eyes look too close together and the nose too thin; also, the mouth looks too far from her nose and her face overall is a bit long.
I don't know if you meant to leave the eyes so rounded, but whether or not you modeled directly from an image, try finding references of women's faces from different angles and put them to the side to work from, and always look at your character's face from different angles as well so it looks good from all sides.
thanks for your detailed feedback! Its actually sculpted from a head shaped sphere so its just regular mistakes ^^ I should bulk up with some more reference!
I'm planning to make the eyes slightly bigger than in real life - but yeah the shape needs work.
small update, maybe not enough for a post but I'm posting anyway! always nice to get some fresh eyes looking at it. still got a lot to poke around with

Would be nice to see dad batten with different sizes (tileable) and some nails

and if well used:
-The fretboard usually has some sort of discoloration from where the fingers touch the most
