Hey everyone
I am trying to learn handpainted textures
I'll post things not related to my game in this thread
feedback is as usual always appreciated
Let's start with this small autumn scene.
The scene was modeled and unwrapped by Milan,
and i am texturing it
for now I am improving the texture (mainly the ground)
also havent touched the planes yet , might leave them away)
there is no texture limit and i can model as much as i want extra
but the main purpose is practising hand painted textures
still thinking how I will present it
wich background etc
a darker background makes it pop more
might take a image or model some extra things around it
version with planes and version without

Also, pines are called evergreens for a reason Maybe throw a couple aspen trees in there for fall colors and make the pines green.
And the alpha planes around the edge seem a bit wasted since the texture is so smooth, not like grass blades hanging over.
edit:
did a few tests
it looks kinda flat atm
got the suggestion to play around with lights
playing around with the treecolors
i really like the red big evergreen though
also tried playing with levels adjustment in photoshop on the trees
The only thing that is putting me off is how the spikes wobble towards the tip on the smaller tree..
the goal is to make a little handpainted scene in UDK
I made a few sketches and started a 3d blockout
still in the early stages and can and will change a lot
Deadline is between 25 january and 1 february
started as arenanet test, but the test was then cancelled, so it became a little sideproject
sculpted and handpainted, no phototextures

here is an update on my tree (in UDK) :
simple diffuse shader
(default tonemapping, first time I paint with tonemapping, changes a few things to get contrast, also can't use the 3ds max paint canvas tool since textures don't display lighting, but diffuse only, when i activate the paint mode.
so learned mudbox, which has a tonemapper option (that always needs to be readjusted when i restart mudbox )
still quite new to it but i can navigate and basic paint decent now
it's more powerfull than painting in max but more confusing at first
