Extruding in maya so geomerty keeps volume

Hey, i'm trying to do alot of extruding and decided to look at a problem that has always annoyed me.

When extruding a 90 degree corner looses so much volume as the image below shows. is there away to keep this volume in maya as i extrude or is there a plugin that will enable this style of extruding?

Yeah there is one over here : http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downloads/scripts-plugins/modeling/poly-tools/c/p3d-solidify

Its a python script. Select the faces then apply the script. A pop-up window will ask you by how much you want the extrude.
Its sometimes buggy, but it can do the job in most cases.

You can set the thickness in the channels tab after extruding and if you have maya 2012 or 2013 there are somes sliders when you use extrude. You can also set the thickness in the extrude options tab

awesome! cheers guys. I found that 2011 doesn't have the thickness attribute but from 2012 they added it.

the scripts really handy as i missed having a shell type tool to quickly extrude out a hole shape, cheers for sharing
