This is amazing, and it turned out wonderful in-game. I'm really enjoying the Alpha. You guys have crafted a really beautiful and captivating world, rich with detail. You should be proud!
I know it's nothing to do with you but I really don't like the design of their mechs in Hawken. They just look.. I dunno, can't really put a finger on it. Greebly perhaps? I think I'd have preferred more sleek looking mechs with more panelling rather than random pipes etc.
Nice work. May I ask, did you subd modeled everything or did you hardsurface sculpted some of the more weird parts? (thinking of the front part of the main body)
Cheers!
this is hot. Awesome work lonewolf.
I like the designs. All those machine parts and stuff let those mechs look like real machines. Although I think they look quite vulnerable with all those parts exposed.
The concepts for the designs were provided by the hawken team, I guess?
ill use this post to say something about the way i work
the time i got for a complete mech was 4 weeks, with aim for 80% match to concept, 3 textures,2k, 1k, 1k, and high poly with about 5 mill polys IIRC, usually when i get cool concept which i believe i can do something unique with higher standards i take the liberty to ignore the deadlines, at this point i dont care if ill get fired for being late or the money i will lose by spending more time on it, all i want is to push the limits and deliver better art
so i ended up spending 2 months to complete it, i made it almost 100% like the concept and added few bits of my own, i made 3 textures which are 4k, 2k ,2k (those are used in the hanger where u customize your mechs) about 15 il high poly and 15 low poly
they pretty much loved it, and from that point there was new rules for the mechs
i think i helped them reshape he mechs and set new standards

i only use 3dsmax all poly modeling
ill post wires soon too, i think im allowed to do that

Its threads like this that made me wish companies would allow their artists to give out texture files. I would love to be able to see the photoshop files so I can see what was done and learn from those.
Awesome work Lonewolf, good to read about your process too. I am exactly the same with deadlines, and have always been fortunate enough when freelancing to work for people who appreciate quality over outright speed.
Also, just on that subject, always cool to read that these guys trusted you enough to be able to say, "this is going to take longer than you wanted, but it will look awesome." and they okd it.
I had a chat with the Hawken guys earlier this year (I live on the wrong continent this time!) and they seemed very very nice.....lots of "dude" in the emails, rather than HR rubbish heh
So yes, great mechs, hope the company go far and stay independent.

i recpmmend you actually not to do that if u wanna have unique work, u could look at the textures and set standard for yourself to achive same quality, not same result

i never check anyone's source files, all i needed are good refs and determination to get the same look, u dont need anything other than that
nice modeling Yaron.
one thing that seem a bit off are some of the sharp edges. i could be wrong but it almost looks like you used hard edges. if so, why ?

What about looking at just the texture page. Not the source files but just what the texture pages look like? and in that case, can you post the texture pages so we can learn from them?

How much time was spent making the High Poly?
Any chance of getting a wireframe shot or two?

yea, concept by the hawken guys, amazing artists!
I love you so much! This might have already been asked, but did you make the lowpoly and bake too?

rear pic
the high poly or low poly?
i just use default scane light with skylight and about 3-4 omni lights, top one bluwish bottom orange, but u can play with the color
for high poly i se the skylight on 1 and low poly i use it with like 0.4-3 depands, sometimes i dont use it at all
it depends on the feedback from the texture
