KIXEYE Seeks a Project Art Lead

KIXEYE is seeking a talented a extraordinary Project Art Lead. He or she will be expected to handle a large number of different responsibilities and to exhibit effective time management skills (such as exemplary prioritization). As with all studio employees, the Project Art Lead is expected to focus on finding solutions rather than simply identifying issues and problems, but is also expected to be more adept at problem solving.

What you get to do everyday:
  • Collaborate with the Art Director to conceive and develop the product's visual direction
  • Act as a full advocate for the project vision
  • Ensure adequate pre-production and testing of new concepts/techniques is complete prior to the production phase of the project
  • With the assistance of the subject matter experts, assess and create time and risk estimates for all project tasks in their discipline
  • Collaborate with the Art Director on any staffing needs for that project
  • Collaborate with Design and Technical Leads in the production and implementation of all art assets and promotional materials
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks, and take pride in the quality of the work created by his or her team
  • Ensure that the quality and consistency of all artwork and animation produced by the art staff meets or exceeds the standards set out in pre-production, and that the planned artistic work meshes cohesively with the project vision
  • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of the art staff working on the project
  • Develop art team members' schedules (in collaboration with the Project Manager and Art Director)
  • Assign and track tasks

  • Direct the day-to-day work of art team members
  • Ensure that scheduled milestones are met
  • Produce and update style guide and art bible documentation as needed
  • Provide progress reports at weekly project team and studio meetings
  • Work with engineering personnel to establish asset pipeline and to troubleshoot technical art issues
  • Maintain open channels of communication with all studio members working on the project, regardless of department or role
  • Conduct critiques with clear and consistent direction to the project's art team
  • Ensure that all good production ideas discovered on the project are shared with the Art Director
  • Coordinate with the Art Director for use of the shared art teams and outsourcing assets
  • Take initiative for improving the studio - striving to create efficient systems for use by the art team and the studio in general
  • Active mentoring, coaching, teaching, and training more junior artists on the internal team
  • Consistent sharing and applying new industry, technical and company information with the Art department and to members of the studio generally
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, drive and a sense of urgency when performing job functions
What you bring to the role:
  • 7+ years video game development experience
  • 2+ or more shipped current generation titles with Art Lead credit on at least one title
  • Extensive portfolio displaying mastery of color, composition, form and design within various mediums, with an eye for detail
  • In depth knowledge of all aspects of asset creation for video games, including modeling, texturing, and animation
  • Art related college or university degree: BA or BFA
  • Extensive knowledge of Photoshop and Maya or relevant 3D software
  • Experience using Unreal Engine 3
  • Ability to give direction and construction criticism in a clear, consistent and positive manner
  • Ability to motivate others and maintain a positive professional attitude
  • Experience managing, mentoring and coaching of more junior staff
  • Superior communication skills
  • Driven, focused and won't settle for mediocrity
  • Must be willing to put in the effort required to create great work while meeting all milestones
