UDK specular overriding diffuse issue

I'm having an issue inside of my UDK scene where, I set up a master material so that I could instance my assets off and just connect the base textures up nice and easily before I start introducing cube maps and other elements. Nothing special happened till I connected the specular, and now its just completely overriding my texture with little to no lighting needed to do so. Now I turned off the specular power and that's made a little bit of difference, but I'm a little stumped at the moment, can anyone help?
