It's a 2 week personal challenge based off the Illfonic Art test, I will be posting daily updates.
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6azwIVIBAArTnNEc0JadWdGYWM/edit#Goals:
Aug 24th: Get a finished and polished block out in UDK
Aug 26th: Finish the 2 buildings with the same structure
Aug 30th: Finish texturing the major assets (sidewalk, fences, road, curb, ext) start work on props and
Sept 6th: Polish and finish
Plans:
- No sculpting besides floral patterns on trim on middle house, and maybe a pass on the curbs during polish phase.
- Smart use of decals to break up tiling on the sidewalk
- Focus on making the scene on the grind an modular
- Add waving animation to telephone pole wires
Issues:
- The art test states it wants one highly detailed normal mapped object, want to avoid using the fire hydrant as that part of it, need to find another way to make that work
Day 1:
Personal critiques on update:
The telephone pole wires are not working well with the composition, make them come from the upper left corner.

One thing I noticed in the reference picture the pole in the very back is tilted slightly. It would add more age and interest to the scene!
Got the major stuff in udk, and setup up the scene so I easily swap out assets with the final ones. There's a few small assets I still need to get in the scene, but I'm going to start texturing the buildings first.
