Truley Gutted about this .. from Psygnosis to Sony to nothing
I was lucky to work with these guy`s for a while
turley talented bunch i wish they all the luck in finding new jobs
Sad day indeed Hopefully everyone finds a job. Perhaps we'll even see some new studios form from the employees?
The Designers Republic originally created the art for Wipeout's packaging, in-game branding and other promotional materials. I loved the graphic design in the Wipeout games.
After most of the closed studio threads here, this one really gets to me. More so than the demise of a great studio I now also fear a poor future with no futuristic racing games.
I mean really there was tonnes on PS1/N64, and a few on xbox/ps2/gcn and now really there was practically just Wipeout. Now even they'll be gone.
Just once it would be nice to have a whole year go by without "massive layoffs/studio closed" news.
I never thought that would happen! I've worked there as well just last year. They were doing good with Wipeout 2048 and some other things. I hope everyone lands on their feet!
Yeah there's very little in that way around any more. I think it's probable that the sheer number of similar games kinda wore out the public. I'm considering developing something similar for a long-off future project.
Actually on the subject of Wipeout did anyone notice the huuuuge shift in overall tone from the first two games (the first being a very "grimy" game, the second being a very "dark" game) to a clean futuristic aesthetic which has persisted since? Korodera was one of my favorite tracks because it had so much atmosphere. And Silverstream was epic.
As you may be aware; Studio Liverpool shut its doors on the 22nd of August 2012.
It was a very sad day- the end of an era and will never be forgotten. While we wait for news on the future of WipEout, Online play will continue to be supported and there will be plenty of WipEout community events, giveaways and goodies to look forward to!
WipEout’s passion will live on - Together we are stronger and together we will keep WipEout alive.

Is there even going to be a games industry here soon? Grim.
We are looking for character/environment artists if anybody from Studio Liverpool is reading.

As in crazy fantasy box art and logos yes (though they only published Lemmings, that one's DMA Design (Rockstar North))
Best of luck to all!

They had apparently been developing the next wipeout for ps4 for 18 months now.
RIP Psygnosis, I hope everyone somehow makes it out ok.
and RIP Wipeout, so sad I'll never get another one of those again, especially if it was being developed for PS4.
my bleeding sensory organs will miss you
