So in my previous classes, about a year ago, i started on these animal models, i did a few, the wolf was for a cartoony game, but i am looking to change up the topolgy, and make it as real as possible, the same with my polar bear, i textured them when i was just learning normal maps, and zbrush, and since then have become a bit more proficient, my main question would be what are some good ways, for a modeler, to make these animals, seem like they have fur, my teacher told me to try to make a fur brush, but well it didnt really turn out too well

First of all, I think you need to look over the general shapes of your animals. The wolf for instance doesn't read like a wolf at all and certainly not a realistic one.
My advice is to look over the anatomy and shapes of both the animals, get some good reference and really try to push yourself to get the shapes right even at low subdivisions.

When you have achieved that then I would look over the fur. The tip I can give for that is to sculpt in "blocks" of fur, not to the single strand and then add alpha plains to give a fuzzy-wozzy look.

Oh, and always look at what other people have done. Here you have two great exemples I found just p

Fur is tricky...I'd say before you tackle that, go back to your model and check your anatomy. Also instead of checking your anatomy against a pencil drawing of a polar bear, wolf etc...get some photo reference

Remember, with fur, you want to think of it in terms of clumps, and the patterns the clumps make, and how it flows along the model. With your models there is almost 0 shape to the fur, and it come off more like treebark....

I would scour the googles and try a tutorial you are excited about trying...here's one I found right off the bat

Thanks so much for the feedback guys, i am going to work on improving the anatomy of my models, for sure, so basically what you guys are saying is to sculpt out blocks, thats way the fur is running along the mesh like it should? And yes i realize that anatomy of my wolf is terrible, i had to go off concept somebody drew for our game, but it is not too far from being able to fix so that it will be realistic, and LOL and dildo mutant
