I had a thread going in the sketchbook section but realised soon after that I would get a lot more through traffic in P&P section, so here I am.
I have a a subscription to 3d motive and will get my monies worth out of that site but I came to a point where I am able to follow a tutorial 1 for 1 but when it came time to modeling something on my own I would become completely stuck and have no idea how the f*ck to model something on my own, so after going over Millenia's tutorial I realised I needed to start modelling on my own with what I have learned and break through the wall I had put up...
I modelled an M9 with a decent hi>low bake (need to remodel the left safety as it isnt how I want it) but when it came to texturing I screwed the pooch and it became apparent that even though I watched and copied Millenia and got a similar result I didnt really understand what he was doing or why, so I decided to model an oil drum and focus on texturing it...
I watched over racer445's sword texture tutorial and tried texturing the barrel and still couldnt understand how to go about it...
it was then I realised I need to study what it is the tutor is doing and not so much what they are saying, so I took out my note book and studied the actions and looked at why... originally I assumed there was nothing new to learn but when I actually started writing notes down, I ended up with 4 pages of notes! and things actually made sense to me.
So at the moment I feel I need to focus a little more on my texturing to bring that up to the same level as my modelling but I am extremely happy with how the barrel turned out even though it took me way to long to produce having to actually study how to do it... I hope the next piece is faster but I am aiming on the quality and not so much the speed as of right now (and the fact I am actually doing this stuff at the pace I am is 1000x faster than I had been doing it before so that's another barrier I seem to have broken)
I will either post the wip of the m9 or revisit it soon but I am looking at modelling something new as I have something in mind.
thoughts and feedback is encouraged as its the reason I am posting at all.
