Extrude is also inset :) Extrude and just up the offset only and thats the same as inset. So instead of inset then extrude in Max you extrude>offset then extrude a 2nd time for thickness.
hey hey.. im currently workin on a high-p piece that will require a rectangular inset on a curved surface.. my problem is that i cant find a good meshflow to make this look right w/o pinching. take a look at these example pics: 1. flat surface = inset looks right 2. curved surface (well kinda but u get the idea..) surface…
I just tried the combined inset/outset tool, and space doesn't work. It does work in the other modes, though. edit: my bad! I had mine set to bevel/inset/outset. What's the difference, and how is this one supposed to work? To me it just seemed the same as the inset, as I can only get it to inset/outset, not bevel.
ah. i see. only thing is you havent inset yet. as per your example you could even just loop, but insetting makes it a bit more difficult because of the 45degree edges. if you inset and then do the way you have suggested, then you'll get the inset edges as well, causing your connects to create a diamond inbetween each square
