Looks awesome dude, I'm glad you went and did a bit more work on the diffuse, his ears were really bothering me on the first page but you cleaned it up nicely. Water on the base works really well, too.
I love the water used on the base, but part of me thinks it may have more impact with some nice transparency and distortion effects if it was to be used in a full environment.
Clear water works well in Skyward Sword and looks beautiful:
Instead of asking him to make the pokemon you want, why not try to make it and probably a polycount members collab, each member would model the pokemon of their choice? Maybe an idea for next polycount contest .
Anyway, i really like it, really nice job. And i love the UDK shot.
EDIT: I vote for Mewtwo.
EDIT2: I found a list for ideas (Wrong names though):

It'd take weeks to perfect the 100 or less tris that make him up! I'd probably try to take it in a slightly different direction, either make it seem slightly digital or plastic.

Hey guys! Thanks for all the feedback - It's much appreciated!
We thought about doing a collab - but ultimately decided it might be best not to. We are hoping to keep everything in the same style and be more fluid. A few close friends of mine from college originally gave me this idea and I don't want to mess with their vision. I'd love to see a collab done though and look forward to seeing everyone's work!
Although not exactly pokemon, I have an evolution project of mine involving kids (that people say reminds them of pokemon visually) that I've been trying to get polycounters to collaborate in with little success. If you guys really are itching to make some silly creatures I'd appreciate the gusto!
Hey guys, so right now I am going to start on my other pokemon Marowak.
This guy is probably going to change alot once I get him in zbrush and start pushing shapes but I did this quick mockup sketch just to get an idea.
Glad you like my idea Hang10, HitmonInfinity, ZacD, Olli., superdenny707, chrisundrum, somedoggy. Would be a fun collab/contest, no prices just fun. Admins and modos could setup that .
^I really like Marowak, it is a good choice, i like the mockup sketch.
Marowak with its skull is an excellent choice for zbrush. Can't wait to see the sculpt.
I'd suggest exaggerating the big end of the bone. It's not in the original design and might not be what you're going for, but I think it'd make it look much more lethal.
Hey all - I'm lucky enough to be a part of this project, and I've been working on one of my favorites from the newer games; Croagunk.
Here's my most recent WIP with just diffuse, blocked in colors and lighting. Feedback is appreciated, I'll be posting more frequently as I work on the textures. Thanks!
I'm not sure if it's the picture or my screen but the top of the head looks a little off. I'm not sure if blocky or pixely is the right word to describe it. But it looks maybe sharp is the correct work?
Love blastoise, need to do charizard and venosaur for the epic front cover, that much is obvious. The croagunk is cool, but don't really know the pokemon, original 150 ftw! He looks a bit shiny?

But i think if you did a Venasaur and Charizard you could make some amazing mock up game covers and posters and what not
That one's Wailord. But I agree with Gyarados. That would be sick.

But then, I'm a sucker for water effects :P
Keep up the awesome!
It looks awesome man!

+1
Sold.
Lol, you could probably model and texture that in less then a work day lol.
Like Porygon 2? :P

sitting at 14 million triangles and uses 4096x8192 diffuse normal spec gloss and various other maps
I think you need to read up on some optimizations lol XD
Thread is here http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96507 and a blog where I wrote about the basic concept behind it and my further experiments. Lately Ive been doing skeletons for the creatures http://evolutionanimation.wordpress.com/
and here were my "151" if you wanted some inspiration.

I should post updates when I do them. ;D

Also, can't wait to see Marowak done!
Your thread has really become quite popular i love it. Can't wait to see your next poke

Keep it up!
Nice work on Marowak
I loled so hard on that pic XD

Mint work you guys
@Sixoul that's just a result of it being a low res screengrab out of maya viewport - no fanciness there so it gets kinda jagged and alias-y.
I had a little more time to work on this guy last night, ended up focusing mainly on the face, still lots to do though.
And here's a shot of what the final high poly ended up looking like -
Awesome Croagunk by the way, @christermime.
