Well after a lot of internal struggle and over a year off work growing moss, I've signed a contract with Pitch Black games. they are a new game company and it will be a tough project, but i liked all the other workers there and the housing in Az is just crazy affordable. I'll be getting things situated to sell our townhouse here in Va in the next 2 weeks then i will move out to Az, My girl will be staying behind a month or so to take care of some stuff and finish out her contract with the school system then be moving out with me.
I'm pretty nervous about all this, makes me realize renting is soooooo much simpler than buying a house. If it was not for selling the house this move would be pretty easy.
p.s. i don't give a shit about your political views of the state keep them out of my thread.

Looks like they're in Chandler, which is a really nice area. Where you looking at living? Phoenix can be kinda weird in that nice areas border total ghettos(moreso than other places I've lived).
I've heard of some houses in AZ needing two AC units, I hope you like the heat!
WELL CONGRATS ON THE JOB! :poly142:
Hope all goes well

thanks all i'm pretty nervous about the whole thing, specialy the hassle of selling a house i've had ppl in nonstop givin estimates on painting and carpet an such.
Watch out for Pheonixes, they aren't as friendly as the Harry Potter books make them out to be!
I'll always be anti-house buying. Too much of a hassle and the future is too unpredictable now. Maybe back in the 1950s when you settled down in a town and didn't move because you were unaware about opportunities lay elsewhere, but not now.
Major congrats.
House selling sucks ass at the moment. But buying a house is actually a pretty good idea. The housing market was in a huge boom in Arizona up until two years ago. Right now its at the lowest its been in decades. The positive thing about it is that property is dirt-cheap in AZ for anyone who is looking to buy. You can get a sizeable house in a good neighborhood for a lot less than you used to.
Chandler is a nice area. A lot of it is residential, and its far enough away from the airports that you don't get much noise. It's also a lot less ghetto than downtown Phoenix or Tempe, so not as much threat of crime.
Oh, and since your moving down there. You again must stop by >Eegees< when you visit the Tucson area. Nothing cools you down on those hot summer days like one of their frozen fruit blends. Mmmmm.
Just don't get suckered into buying a house and contributing to the unrestricted urban sprawl of the Phoenix/Gilbert/etc. Area. Further, then installing a pool like its somehow required to be accepted.
I love you, never change my man.
nice one
if you plan on living there for at least ~5 years
I know a lot of the gang around here prefer their mobility. But I spent my entire childhood moving from one state to the next. I'd prefer to remain where I am for the time being.
PODs, friend moved from here to KY for $600 (minus gas from driving his car across country). And get your heavy stuff in before or after 1pm - 5pm, hottest part of the day, and the thermostat got turned up since you were out here.
You'll get used to the heat, just be ready for it.
Good job and happy living in Arizona!
maybe sometime in the near future we can see a resurrection?!? amongst many others?!?
I checked out AZ a bit when I was job hunting back in 07. It seemed pretty nice with the only real con being the heat!
Best of luck to you
also as far as housing goes, one good resource I've found is the housing heatmaps on hotpads
Heres one for chandler and surrounding.
Bluer areas are better to buy in, reds are better to rent in.
Good luck on the house sale.
also
so so true
pricey? you about made me fall off my chair laughing, housing out there is like half or less what it costs here around dc.
