A. All I7 CPUs are designed to automatically overclock when needed, to an extent, they will not OC to an extreme amount like you may see people doing manually. B. looking to buy the new rtx 3070 for my pc... have a question about hardware:
my pc is about 4 or 5 years old. its a Core i7 6800K @ 3.40GHz, 64 Gb RAM, 600 Watt PSU, with 1 ssd, 1 hd and 1 external ssd. Mobo is Gigabyte X99-SLI-CF with quadro k2200. Can I take out the old quadro and install the new rtx 3070 (I have enough room for it) ? -

The 2700X is expected to be $370, so not much more expensive then the current 1800X prices. For overclocking, yes the CPU is the most important part by far, but the motherboard can be designed to better accommodate large CPU coolers, have additional voltage and frequency settings in the bios, and a few other minor things.… -
How to decimate very big photoscanned mesh (over 370 million faces)?
Hi! I've photoscanned a tree bark with Agisoft Photoscan. The decimation stage at the end of building the mesh would have taken so long, that I had to set the face count to unlimited and skip the decimation stage. The question is a bit of an oxymoron - high end laptops that are good for 3D tend to have beefy, high power consumption CPUs and GPUs. So if you want something really efficient it would be an M1 Macbook Air. But that's not a particularly good machine for 3D work. What is more important to you, low power use, or high end… -

You could get an i7 3770, which will be about 50% faster, but I'm not sure how smart that would be, with a new mobo, you could get a 5820k (which is twice as fast as Jed mentions) for perhaps not much more money than the 3770.
