@idli @JamesBrisnehan @defragger Thanks a lot guys! I really appreciate your feedback. Sorry, unfortunately, I didn't get enough time to visit polycount recently. I also made some more changes with the newer version of the lighting with higher resolution and toning, etc. Hope it somewhat gives a feel to the environment.
There are some serious restrictions however that you should be aware of. You only get 30 brushes and cant import new ones. There is a polycount limit within core. No spotlight/No texture maps apparently. Its a hard sell for many. You might get more out of 3D Coat in that case. Just food for thought.
And as a word of warning about class projects, you need to spend more time outside of the actually assignment time to gett it portfolio ready. It's been rare to see homework as portfolio worthy assignments on Polycount and other portfolio's we've seen. The one's that are good are the ones that had more time put into them…
Any luck? I just signed up for polycount JUST because of this specific problem. The exact same thing happens to me. Did installing an older version help? I'm just trying to reduce an object that has about 40k polys and it crashes! I've been following along and trying the suggestions with nothing to show for it.
Yeah, I just exported it into a different scene completely different dirt map now. But i wouldn't mind seeing what you got to see if its render correctly.. I almost curious about the missing circle is that suppose to be like that.. or what? Polycount why do you keep logging me out?
re exploded + ao: http://wiki.polycount.com/AmbientOcclusionMap?action=show&redirect=Ambient+Occlusion+Map#EarthQuake.27s_Baking_Method cage should be all soft edges, although it's better if you understand why this is, so check out the 'you're making me hard' thread and/or polycount wiki can't help with the maya stuff…
For motivation you need to learn how to use the search function of this forum. It's the big white box on the upper left under 'Search Polycount Forums' - you'd be surprised at how many threads JUST LIKE YOURS have the same nice people writing the same things over and over again for people like yourself.
Wow thank you a lot cman2k! This is actually the first time I heard that you can have a 2nd UV and I didn't even know there was a polycount wiki ><;; I just do this as a hobby but I love it so much I just want to learn more about it. Again Thank you :D
Sometimes I really like to take a brake from hard surface modelling stuff and step to sculpting for a moment. This is what I have made with my old sculpt made for Polycount challenge, this is my low poly model. Yeah, I didn't create everything like on concept, but I just wanted to finish this :)
Check out the Polycount sticky that lists all the users here working for the major studios. http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49362 You can usually just look at their signature or click their profile to see their portfolio. For example, here's a guy who worked on Halo 4 and COD (JDinges).…
