you've got too many straight 90° angles and too sharp edges overall. on Overwatchj everything is nicely angled, or beveled to chunky 45° with soft edges to catch highlights nicely. Check out the overwatch high poly renders on artstation.
would it be possible to round off the edges of the boxes that arent touching edges of another box, so you get a chamfered soft edge look on the boxes, just swapping them in and out based on the logical rules of what its connected to. could make things look a lot more neater and interesting, like soft corners on stone…
For your dominant directional light, in the cascade shadow maps part of the properties menu you can set the whole scene dynamic shadow radius to 2048 and the num whole scene dynamic shadow cascades to 3. Those settings give you a fairly soft shadow while still having defined edges. Play with those settings and you can…
Nice work! I love your color palate and your breakdowns (which I will be saving a referencing later ;) ) The biggest critique I would have here is probably your rocks, they don't feel very cohesive to the rest of the props although its hard to put my finger on why. Possibly the scale is off as they look huge compared the…
I use 2008, so i hope this is still relevant... or actually not, hopefully this stuff is already fixed ;) . -Overall the program is just bloated by functionality that isn't really necessary, or doesn't feel relevent to what you're doing at the time. There are plenty of buttons that if i think hard i could kinda see how it…
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Does that mean that smooth is the only way to solve this problem? Is there another way around this without increasing my polygon count? [/ QUOTE ] Smooth? Smooth what? What does polygon count have to do with using tangent versus object space maps? Are you subdividing the model now or something? Or are…
This is a time-lapse video on how to make a 3D model from a 2D image, it shows the basic techniques to create a simple 3D model of Soft Drink Can (Coca Cola Beverage Can, 330ml) from reference image of Actual Product in Autodesk Maya.…
Ok Ive been using photoshop for years and the fill tool has always worked the same, you fill the object and if its all the same colour it works and if theres some soft edges you may need to play with the tolerance to get it right. But now is CS5 no matter what I do it fills the object with hard colour all the way to the…
@Gavin your rocks look good I think you low poly would benefit from not being zremeshed and decimated instead as it makes the rocks read as quite soft round the edges. Also some of the edges of the high poly might benefit from sharpening up a touch as they are quite soft and rounded in places. your low poly also seems…
