Your edges on the lowpoly can be sharp as a blade as long as you split the UVs, bake correctly and got the Y channel correct as well. Then you usually don´t even need support edges for your lowpoly.
looks really good. I have a question though, when making hard surface stuff like this, do you usually create the lowpoly first and then sub-D model a highpoly from that? or is it still highpoly > lowpoly?
hi Cole.soryy are the lowpoly shots from 3ds max and which version? I guess the lowpoly or the displaying application is causing this. Might also be just a flip red channel problem.. hard to tell without more info
Looks like the lowpoly intersecting with the high and casting shadows on it - right click on the lowpoly mesh, go to Object Properties in the quad menu bottom right, and turn off "Cast Shadows" in the checkbox list on the right of the properties window.
This would be my first high-/lowpoly model and I found no polygon budget for the lowpoly weapon. If there is no polygon restiction defined in this contest, what would be your rule of thumb for 1st person view / 3rd person weapon?
does that work for meshes that arn't connected? Wouldn't it just create a bunch of lowpoly stones instead of one nice solid lowpoly model. I havn't seen a tool yet that can do it automatically in a nice way. works for me!!!!
I am not sure what you are exactly asking, you kind of went off on a rant that didn't make sense to me. I can answer you original question, but if you have others please organize them and clarify better for me. Your first example is typically called "water tight," geo, which means all the shapes that don't need to move or…
Never use the edge split modifier just to sharpen edges these days. Instead, go to the vertex attributes tab in the properties editor (it's the one with the triangle on it) and enable Auto Smooth and set the angle to 180 degrees so only edges you mark as sharp will be sharpened. This method doesn't tear apart your mesh and…
-At the bottom of the projection modifier enabled "shaded" first (makes it more clear) -Then the little arrrow next to "Push - amount", slide that up untill the cage encompasses the highpoly. (you never want your cage to be 100% even/flush with the highpoly/lowpoly). (if you have shaded on, it will give a good view of it)…
Hello. I'm trying to get better. This is my first model after a long break. Concept is done by https://www.artstation.com/vincentvenoir There is also artstation link with sketchfab lowpoly in it https://www.artstation.com/artwork/lABle I'm interested in feedback about highpoly, lowpoly and presentation. Tnx
