I want to model a hat or weapon using XSI, could any of you guys record a vid of how to do a simple hat/weapon. I make maps with Hammer but find XSI difficult so far and dont have any reference model etc. Thnx!
Well, it's not a complete soldier yet, but a start. This is the head so far, and i need lots and good crits and comments to make it better, and let it use the polies more efficiently. Mainly crits on the edge loops. So take out your crit sledge hammer and start pounding! Here is the helmet so far. images shoudl work now
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback. I fixed the wear line on the cylinder. I added the blue/greenish tint to the spec and brought some of the scratches out on the barrel. I also added a little bit of the rainbow oil effect to the metal on the trigger and hammer.
Thanks Jalay, I apprecaite it. I tried Vailias option as well and it still doesn't seem to help the spec. It also washed out some of the other colors. Just trying to hammer down a proper workflow from SP -> UE. I appreciate your help.
Yup. $blendtintbybasealpha will let you tint the color of the model based on the alpha map in the diffuse. That's how they tinted the cars randomly in L4D2. I'm not sure that it's programmed into TF2's FGD file to be able to tint environment models per model in Hammer like L4D2 is though.
Oh! I'm assuming UV islands/shells are just large chunks of connected UV mapping? Yeah I used your and EQ's work for reference a lot, which helped for reference for some areas I really could not find pics for, such as the hammer area etc.
I really like the way the spark editor for ns2 is set up. Its kinda like google sketchup, to me hammer and a lot of other stuff including unreal engines bsp is kinda slow and i don't like it but thats just my 2 cents.
Managed to get some more free time, worked on reshaping the gun a bit more, mainly the grip and hammer areas. Taking parts I'm happy with and doing some test textures on the low-polys (barrel, recoil guide, trigger, mag release and slide clip).
Hi Josh, Really digging that Baron model (the elephant guy). I think that's one of your best ones yet... Nice Donatello as well. I was just about to start on a turtle myself! Hammer bros from Super Mario :P Keep posting shots!
I like it! Do you have it a screenshot of it in studio lighting? I think right now it's mostly tweaking the look of the materials and getting some glow on the hammer stone for the beauty shot. If it's in more neutral lighting, that might help us diagnose what sort of contrast the model will need.
