Looking good, love the handpainted textures!! But watch out for the hard surface buddy, your brenches are full of thoses... It really affect negatively the perfs of your projects and give you ugly sharp edges everywhere :) Keep it up, with props it ll be a nice piece!
I had a workshop 'handpainted texturing' at school from Mightypea? and as some of you wil notice it's the goblin from mop from his goblin sdk thread the scaffold, the pumkin and the shrooms are my props, the other props are from classmate's texturing is all mine
i did a quick dirty paintover, just ignore it if u dont like it :) i think the boots need a little more silhoutte, but nice overall feeling... was it asked already? are you going for a handpainted look? i think that'd fit mighty fine...
I love this handpainted look you are going for here. The predatr is insane right now. When it comes to your latest faces I feel they are lacking in Hue variation, but other than that stellar progress. If I may ask, which software are you texturing in?
I'm not an expert on handpainting, ok :( You may build the model itself in Maya. Or other modeling tools. UVwrap this. Then get to Photoshop, or 3D Coat, would be easier to paint the model. If you look over the process; there doesn't seem to be any normal map involved.
Texturing process examples through to final result, nearly everything bar the bakes, text and logos are handpainted. Intended goal of a muted realistic-yet-retrofuturistic finish met. Will upload in the next few days, unless a reader strongly feels a fix or edit is necessary.
Well to begin with, don't ever use Black or white. They don't exist ! :) Keep in mind that handpaint is about faking volume. if you take a piece of wood stack it with another, the crack in between isn't going to be black, it's going to be SLIGHTLY dark than the original color.
Finished! I admit fully to struggling with the metal textures as I haven't done a lot of that material. Looking forward to getting better. On to the next piece. The goal of this exercise was more handpainting. I only did a diffuse in the attempts to learn how to add value to the piece.

Hi guys! I found an old model of Ashbringer that I was working on in Uni long ago before I dropped it. After fixing it I added it to 3DCoat to handpaint the model. I really really hate UVing in Max so I used 3DCoat instead.
