Not really, texture maps are tuned to their specific renderer/shaders anyway. Ideally you'd have a shader that emulates, or is pretty much, your in-game shader. To get your textures to match up in Mental Ray and the viewport, I'd just use max's procedural brightness/contrast and not bother with going back and forth between…
An idea for your pedestal make it like a ground slice that has been lifted up... with grass/dirt/stones/roots/pipes. But solid modeling just need more more more! PS. if you up your rays/sample: in lighttracer, you will get rid of those artifacting. maybe double them as a starting point
Ya the shadows work just fine with light maps. But what about the exterior? and is there anything I am doing wrong besides the overblown out? or Unreals lighting is limited.
