Handpainting, love it. I suck at it and I want to get way way better at it so I humbly throw myself and my pieces to the polycount wolves. Solid stuff. I would mention the weird reflection on the left side bricks but i think its still WIP so maybe it will go away after the final build. Keep at it. PS: good thing that you didnt go in that direction... ;) . It was a bit too sinister.
Managing material channels like that in ps is a real nightmare. I know, I did it like that in the dark medieval ages. I'd lay them out all in a 3d software , bake base maps and masks and continue in Substance. Either Painter or Designer based on the requirements.
This time, i began with some 3Ds in photoshop. It's good to have them for instant structure + perspective. This one's actually modified from the next one Building crappy spacecraft using PS 3D is fun Only the the beam in the middle is made from 3D cliche one
You have to use 8bit in UDK yes, but It's best to keep the highest bit depth that you can before importing. All my source textures are always 16bit until the last possible minute, where I down sample then to 8bit in PS and import as usual.
Also thx @musashidan for posting that reference. I did try to follow that image but mine is still lacking. Critiques are welcomed :) PS: her underarm / shoulder looks weird in T-Pose, I think it has more to do with skeleton joint placement or skin weighting...
kinda unusual to post a sphere and call it a character. i agree with kot_leopold, post something not so early. i always look forward to other character artists wok on here. ps. you have 3K polys while im seeing 64 polys + the plane

@Minos & @SirCalalot Thanks for the feedback! I took it into account and I'll adjust it when I have a chance. =] I also got some feedback that the scene looked a bit washed out, so I did another pass on Postprocessing. No PS, just UDK. Cheers,
