One small but very useful tip, switch on "Rotate on Y axis", instead of the default "rotate on all axis". It'll make camera rotation behave much more like it does in other 3d apps (ie, less annoyingly). It's in the sidebar directly to the right of the viewport by default.
I think snap radius starts at 20 by default. Are you sure you have snaps activated, just selecting the tool from the drop down menu doesn't always activate them. the snaps marker is is just a visual aid, and i think that is set to 30 by default.
Yea I think they changed the default light setup from 1 to 2 and Gama/LUT to on in 2012. If you get it set how you want in a default scene and save that scene as maxstart.max to your 3dsmax/scenes folder it will load each time you start max.
AFAIK everything is floating point, but the current graph bit depth determines what it gets converted to and that is 8 bit by default. You can override it and have parts of a graph be higher bit depth, like the normals. Makes a big difference on hard surface bakes (SD bakes in 16bit by default).
I don't know if it's a repost or not but you can activate the older version in C:\Documents and Settings\BLABLABLA\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2009 - 32bit\enu\defaults\MAX\CurrentDefaults.ini [Scene Explorer]SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=0 set 1 for the default scene explorer or 0 for oldversion :\
I'm also not a great fan of the default XP colours, but since it is a skin it can easily be changed. I've heard nothing about default skinning of Longhorn/Vista, but I imagine it is something that MS will encourage this time. I do like the shots I've seen of the new Aero interface in Longhorn.
Photoshop doesn't know anything about normal maps. It treats them as regular images assuming the values are in srgb space by default. But it doesn't matter usually because color profiles are are for show on screen. The pixel values stay same. And if you use some blending modes they just do whatever math they designed for .…
Is that default MR Physical Sky? Because when I use the default all my colors get washed out horribly... I'm going to be experimenting with physical sky, so I'll post anything I find out thats relevant to getting a different background image up.
I got tired of setting up my damn control scheme every time i pick up a new game so yah I've gone default for every recent game. Though now I have to relearn how to play counterstrike with the default config. ARGH!
Managed to test it here. My father's comp sucks badly but it was enough to try it. He saw me as the default player. I'll try to find out what causes that. Perhaps it's just because I joined the game twice, once with the default model and once with the one you see there.
