I think there are difficulties in each path and neither of them is necessarily more difficult than the other. Once I got a job in animation, I had game studios here and there reaching out to me. The thing is, if you're making game art, you gotta know how to make a sub-d model and then bake those details down to a lower…
When creating textures for a game environment, I understand a lot of objects get independent textures (IE Weapons,Characters, etc) but I was wondering when I should SHARE the textures. Is that just when creating large buildings that use the largest textures? Or is it in general, IE this small lamp should try and share the…
Let's start in reverse with #3. Atmosphere: this is completely in your control and it's up to you to decide. What atmosphere are you going for? Industrial? Something like Portal where it feels like a lab environment? You need a clear and cogent idea of what atmosphere you're targeting before you can decide on materials and…
Don't just model things and then think about the texture afterwards. Both need to go hand in hand - the shape of the model will define what the texture will look like, to a certain extent. I'm talking more in terms of normal mapping rather than colouring. However, when it comes to texturing this modular hallway, I would…
thats funny , its like trying to take a film studio , and production company to court for making a violent movie. yes , sue the crap out of wallmart if you like for selling the game to a minor. Not that its really there fault probly ... lets face it , if you are 16 and you want to get a 18 game , you just ask you buddy to…
Yeah, it’s a plane, only two triangles. To make the textures I used a voronoi fracture system, tweaked the rotations a bit (for a better normal map) then baked it out to textures.
Yes, taking it to Maya would be easiest. As @kanga said, if he is taking one model from ZB and the other from Max he makes sure he has set up his scale correctly between the two at the beginning of the project. This step has to be 100% or the baking will fail.
Hey all, Here is an update to my satellite. I've been having really bad luck with software, so I've been working around my issues so I can get this thing done. 1. Modo 12 changed how smoothing works and I've been unable to bake round edge shader correctly. Found some info online (Warren Marshall), but that didn't help in…
Put some models I did for a past challenge into Unity and baked light. I think my latest job, which entailed light baking, inspired me to do so. Somehow I find light baking satisfying :-B Maybe I will continue with this scene? Currently I'm using the default baker but I'm thinking about getting Bakery. Did an iteration on…
You're simply in that weird state where you already know quite a bit of technical things, are being influenced by a highly specific tool that is not "standard practice" (HardOps) ... while also lacking experience to get some perspective on things. A few things : • A HardOps/Boxcutter model can look fantastic, but it will…
