cheers guys, D4V1DC feedback is always fine. In the end I think the pupil in the eye makes it more relate-able - which is important when you need to engage the audience to vote the item into the game! To me - it brought the piece a little disney evil vibe, which I feel lands nicely with the dota 2 style.
"Convincing 2d that looks like 3d.... Wow" The name Sergio Pablos stuck in my mind after seeing his character Dr. Doppler from the film Treasure Planet (Disney, 2003). It's some very fluid animation. He was the supervisor for that character, that you can see at 2:33 here: http://youtu.be/sTa-8RzsAbg
Just make sure your contract doesn't have a little loophole that might make your indie asset part of the companies belongings you are currently working for, such as Disney. Then again, you could fake amnesia when you go home. I heard Vodka works well in large doses, although making shaders then will be a bitch.
These are the books I own. They are a great starting point: [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Animators-Workbook-Step-Step-Techniques/dp/0823002292/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1276890117&sr=8-1[/ame] [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Illusion-Life-Disney-Animation/dp/0786860707/ref=pd_sim_b_3[/ame]
Check out 3dcoat. Pretty decent painting tools with support for depth as well. Andrew the developer just added ptex support in the most recent build too - which is pretty freaking cool considering that disney just released that stuff within the last month or so. 3D Coat Latest Builds and Change Log PTex
I would ask permission if I was going to model somebody's personal concepts, like Jouste's stuff or something Feng Zhu did that wasn't for a client, but I wouldn't ask Marvel if I could model Wolverine. --- though I would mention in the presentation that he was created/owned by Marvel Comics Inc.... or I guess Disney now.
Spoken like a true RtW State resident skankerzero. :poly121: The good news is, freelance artists can be covered under union contracts as well. We do it with artists at all of our contracted studios. I had lunch with a freelance artist this week who had pension and health contributions made for the work he did, at home, for…
My objection to the heals was more me taking an opportunity to joking ref the recent acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney and not meant as a serious crit... Yeah, I'll admit that if I were the AD, I'd have the heels reduced in height to a "working"/work-boot level rather than a fashionable level but I'm not the Art Director…
Objectifying women is bad, and a lot of us are blind to it, but I think a lot of people have started looking for objectification so much they find it where there is none. Someone is going to be offended no matter how you make your fellows. I think a slow change is inevitable, but giving a woman stylized disney-esque…
Mohit Kallianpur from Walt Disney Animation Studios (Director of Cinematography & Lighting) popped in to say hello and give a little talk to the UHAnimation students this week, what a cool man. If any of you Games Art pros ever want to pop in to talk to the students then PM me and I will book you in :) And the…
