I get the sense that some HR people (& immigration) look at 'not working inhouse' as being unemployed - mainly because its so hard to prove exactly how long you were *actually* working on freelance. I agree with Perna, if you're doing this to learn I think you bit off more than you could chew and you should start out on something other than a gun, they can be incredibly complex and require a high degree of skill to do. A simple handgun takes a lot of skill to model and Per is right you don't just stumble onto "talent"… -

The first thing that jumps out at me when looking at this is that it doesn't seem like there's underlying structure in this guy's face. The general landmarks are there -- eyes, nose, mouth, etc. -- but there's no indication of bones and general structure below the surface to hold them in place. Everything seems to flow…
