i7, 16 gigs of ram, GTX 770, and a 240 gig ssd will be easy on that budget. A 1000 watt power suppy is way overkill unless you want to do triple SLI in the future. Most cases will provide sufficient cooling, but you will probably want an after market heat sink for the processor. -

are you using r32 bit displacement maps? if so, you aren't even supposed to open them in photoshop. this tutorial helped me get displacement maps working. i think i had to set my extrusion strength to 2.2 instead of 220. http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/ZBrush_to_3ds_Max -

@MooseCommander - there is a visual improvement. but as with everything i do i'm sure there is a lot of room to optimize! @serial lens - i did not know that! i'll get that in asap =] edit: i'm assuming that since the mask is just one channel of a texture, i'd need to do power 2.2 for each other channel as well? -
Re: Normal map save problem
I was gonna merge different normal maps together and found out about the problem. The problem occurs when just re-saving the file as well. Could the gamma correction during the baking cause this problem? Input gamma was set to 2.2. Edit: Yes, that was apparently the problem. Thanks for the help, guys! -

Hey quixel, I'm having trouble sending textures to max, this is what happens max side. I'm using max 2014 and vray 2.2 if that makes a difference. and in the bridge settings I'm only getting the options to send the albedo, bump, gloss and normal. Thanks for the help! I was using an mr Area Omni (didn't know that was a legacy light). In any case, yeah, leaving the gamma at 2.2 causes the error (where the light shines only at an angle, not in all directions) but setting it at Autodesk View LUT fixes it. You need to triangulate more. It's very obvious to see how you made it, where the extrusions are and it looks very boxy. What I usually do for lowpoly organic shapes, is extrude, then rotate a bit, extrude again, etc. This will make the shapes more random looking. My wife tagged 150 hours in dragon age and 142 hours in fallout3, finding games over 5 hours is way easier though. 33 hours for me in deus ex human revolution, only one playthrough. Im pretty sure sonic the hedgehog can be beat quicker than bulletstorm.
