I think I figured it out. Set viewport to material mode and in the material window, tick shadeless and vertex color paint, that way, the colour picker samples only the color information. I dont know about performance differences between Nvidia and ATI in such applications, but i personally use a radeon 6870 and never had Problems with Drivers or Performance on any 3D Application. I dont think the difference is that big, but Nvidia has CUDA which is an advantage. But i have to say that 16 Gig might sound… -

Autocon, Bryan's paintover is spot on in what its doing: Giving your scene focus. Your current iterations are a bit focus noisey and really bring the eye to a lot of areas.
