Nice man, I really like Ryan Lang's stuff as well. Something to be a bit careful about though with his work is that he showcases his personal work a lot and his concept stuff is a bit more hidden. (professional portfolio - http://ryanlangportfolio.blogspot.com/ ) This is pretty common to do with pros who are in the scene…
I saw it yesterday and I'm mixed on it. I'll start by admitting that I know it was rated PG-13, but I figured it was because of the violence and maybe some swearing. They did realize kids would want to see this movie, right? But then the movie theater decides to run the trailers for Chuck and Larry, so my 10 year old is…
Hey! For a 30 day challenge you're coming along pretty well. I think the main thing I see that you could work on is better defining the structure of the overall face, not just the individual features themselves. This is very common when doing stylized faces I used to do it myself. What I mean is that with stylized heads a…
So you've survived another grueling week of long hours, crunch sessions, living off ramen noodles and/or slurping champagne off the bellies of exotic women. However you've spent your week, you've decided to join us for another weekly Friday Community Re-cap. This weeks re-cap contains: * All kinds of goods, Polycount…
check to see if there are any pieces with terrible UV overlapping. Lightmass is pretty forgiving when it comes to UV overlaps, but I can see it getting stuck in a repetitive cycle trying to compute many sets of overlapping UVs.
Apart from @Mant1k0re 's solid advice, one way to do it is to have an edgeloop of the 2 pieces in the exact same place and just turn on wireframe in SP when you're painting. That way you can paint the normal detail along that exact edgeloop ensuring consistency. Also, earlier you said you can't bring both meshes to SP. Why…
The challenge I found with the common sense aspect was that I really did have to rely on my own judgement in the end. I was able to have all of my work evaluated for a default "this is your worst piece, you shouldn't have it in your portfolio." except the dog that had universal appeal. Of course I only took this advice…
Very cool man really like this. I am still learning as well. I only learnt what UV's are and how they work a few days ago, that was after studying them for a good few weeks lol. You've done a real good job for your first asset though dude. Just as Alex said, you could have defo mirrored some of your islands there and…
I agree with the above! You obviously have a grasp on the basic mechanics, but you need to be much more thoughtful in crafting and constructing a physical space as opposed to just populating a 3d space with 3d models. How are things put together? How do they connect? What does light do where objects intersect? What does…
Damn, this is fricken gorgeous! There's a question I have concerning the layer clone technique you mention on 80 Level. Whenever I try it, the second set isn't entirely sewn together, there's a gap between the pieces and the layers. However in one Marvelous Designer screenshot it looks like there is a bridge between…
