that Hemispherical Shader is most likely a simplified but non standard material from wings 3d,- better ask your programmer what he knows he can handle or work with (*.dx, OBJ/MAT,..?). Another way could be to render the shader output in the texture (render to texture). Blender, Max and Maya can do something like that- but… -

seems alphas have only gotten trickier in this console generation, insanely expensive to render over here. i was told that a certain high-end console has a harder time to render alphas than it's seven, eight year old predecessor... at the same time anisotropic highlights and the new lighting and postprocessing systems imo… -

I only looked at your 3D stuff and like someone already mentioned and... the orthographic(?) front camera used for some of the renders is boring. Use a more interesting angle. It's subdivided quadrangles, so the lod for the curves is scaleable. (Weta switched from nurbs to subDs between the second and third LOTR movie ... I agree with that...) But that makes me also wonder why the ID techs decided to go for an 'alternate' (lets call it this way) nmap read/generation by default, while the 'classic' nmaps we see generated everywhere else work quite well already?
