I'm not an animator but I love researching traditional animation all the time. If you're serious about learning, you can try hitting up many free web resources about it. You can also look into picking up 2 great books. Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life and The Animator's Survival Kit.
Hmm hopefully they will release it to the public someday . Although a lot of really great looking programs never see the public light of day .Like Disneys " Deep Canvas " . I seen that software being used in the special edition of Tarzan and it looked awesome ..like painter in 3D but alas has never made it out to the…
I totally agree the The 12 principles of animation are very important. But they are a little dated. They where not handed down on stone tablets. They came from 9 old Disney animators that came up with the concepts and names more or less out of necessity. For 3D 8, 10, 11, 12, are often out of the control of the animator or…

This is a really awesome discussion about a lot of the old game (art) challenges they've had to meet during the development of two separate, but well received, Disney platformers back during the SNES / Genesis era of video games. Feels like a very casual, but effective, GDC talk. http://youtu.be/kILeyo1iv0A
This next study was about shape and colour/mood. It was a bit different as this lent towards a more Disney/Pixar theme. It was nice to try something different. breaking this down further, I paid careful attention to readable shapes within the clouds and identifiable moods through lighting…
I assume the new movie is due to the Marvel/Disney teamup. They're trying to buy back all their IPs from various companies and if those companies aren't doing things with the franchises then they lose the right after some time. Same reason Fox has announced they're going to reboot the Fantastic Four.
Haven't bought & watched this myself, but this Disney/EA guy has a 15min tut out that claims to explain how to obfuscate a Maya Python API plugin. Feels a bit weird they're asking $15 for such a short thing, but might be worth checking out: http://www.cgcircuit.com/course/lock-your-python-code
It's a movie about pirates - I still don't get the negative feelings about it? What were you guys expecting going to a Disney movie about pirates? To have you minds blown in complexity and interesting universe development? I went expecting a bunch of pirate jokes, explosions, rum and Jack Sparrow...
Ptex does work only good with low polycount objects optimized for subD. Its made for Disney Style. Making UVS for complex stuff is just part of the game if you work for Film. This robot here will need some UDIMs to get a decent pixel density. But first you have to create clean unfolded UVs.
