I don't know what you are trying to do with that PC, but the Core duo 2 extreme is absolute overkill (and has a bad value), get a normal E6600, that more than quick enough (and don't get that PentiumD... it sucks big time). If nvidia had the best openGL drivers around, why there is so much issues in maya (openGL) with nvidia serie 8 cards? At work I have a IBM workstation 3.6ghz 3gb ram and a quadro. I get a constant 5fps no matter how dense the scene, great for baking normal maps which I do about two days out of the year. i've got a 8800 GT that i picked up for like $100, you may be able to find it for less even these days, runs everything i could think of great. You could try a 8600 or 7600 if you need to go really cheap. newegg has some 9800s for near/less than $100 actually(only one 8800 which is $100) -
