well I made a bold choice in the end and got an acer. It has pretty good specs and Run gears of war at pretty near highest settings. little bit stuttery though but that may just be a driver issue. acer T7300 - Gforce 8600M GT 512Mb and intel core Duo centrino( 2gig each core). 320 GB hard drive output to HD tv. suppose the…
I don't know what you are trying to do with that PC, but the Core duo 2 extreme is absolute overkill (and has a bad value), get a normal E6600, that more than quick enough (and don't get that PentiumD... it sucks big time). Same for the GFX card: http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.aspx?articleid=868&cid=2 That is a sub…
If nvidia had the best openGL drivers around, why there is so much issues in maya (openGL) with nvidia serie 8 cards? ( and some others ) I had no problems with my old geforce 5700 and now: freezes, slow down with my 8600 gt And i'm not the only one. I have no issues ( it seems ) in fx composer, but in maya it sux. Ok for…
great topology! very clean and .. just great ;) ! maybe give the woman some more curvature to the hip/waist/shoulder area. her shoulders seem pretty wide asswel. the guy could probably do with wider hips. hope it helps! and i'm looking forward to updates! (oh and it looks more like 8600 triangles to me)
Here is my basement home office. Thats my new rig right there . Quad core , 4gb ram ,raid 1, and a 8600gt ( temporary gfx card ). The cat hanging on the drawing table is Mika.
Interesting. What card are you using? And I got another question to put out there, whats most important in rendering speed for Maya in terms of hardware? Heres the rig i have set in mind at the moment. OS - Windows 7 Ultimate (yes, 64bit, finally!) Processor - i7 860 (2.8GHz/8mb) Motherboard - Gigabyte P55A UD4P RAM - 8GB…
At work I have a IBM workstation 3.6ghz 3gb ram and a quadro. I get a constant 5fps no matter how dense the scene, great for baking normal maps which I do about two days out of the year. But it never improves above that and I animate 10k characters with only a diffuse. Thats hardly pushing anything. If I load the same…
i've got a 8800 GT that i picked up for like $100, you may be able to find it for less even these days, runs everything i could think of great. You could try a 8600 or 7600 if you need to go really cheap. newegg has some 9800s for near/less than $100 actually(only one 8800 which is $100)
you'll need your own porter too, my old graphics beast laptop was 8kg. (the first "desktop replacement", the HP ZD2700) Thankfully there are no "early adopter" machines these days. I work on mac hardware both at home and at work, and have a powerbook laptop which is no where near your needs (I use it for checking email,…
