Plan ahead and create one texture map that contains each of the elements you need, a wall section, wooden plank, window etc. Then place the UV islands for each part over the corresponding area of the texture map. If a UV island is larger than the corresponding section of the texture (at the desired texture scale) then…
Sounds cool to me, very similar to what Dead Rising 2 did with Case West and Case Zero. Zero was released before the game came out and was a small taste of the experience in a complete mini game, not just a demo. You had to pay for it but I believe it sold up to a million and was really successful for Capcom, especially…
Hey there... Yeah, I've heard nasty things about a lot of 3d packages' UV'ing mechanics....especially maya and 3ds max's. However, I'm a Maya user, and I do still use them, AFTER I've had a pass through Headus UV Layout. Headus is really great as it has one of the best packing functions around. I also use UV Master in…
I think perhaps what Taylor actually meant is What is it you actually want to do? IMO theres a lot of misguided thoughts as to what a particular job titles encompass in the general visual commercial arts industry (from those who are new/not evolved in it. I personally am CONSTANTLY referred to as a 'grafic designer'... I…
@Felipefrango - Using geometry tricks to get certain effects in Max was only really because I hadn't tried to replicate those materials (transparency with gloss and fresnel etc.) before with the realtime shaders in Max, and had just assumed they would work straight out of the box. When they didn't it seemed like a quick…
I've been tinkering with this ART renderer a bit and it's REALLY impressed me for it's speed, interactivity, accuracy, integration etc. I think this is an absolutely amazing rendering system to go alongside the standard scaline renderer. Right now I could see why lots of people would just hop to this right away. Everything…
I'm in the middle of answering it now, but I think it's interesting that you bunch an MMO like WoW together with Skyrim when asking for preference. As I would've given WOW (or most mmo's) a 1 or 2 and games like Skyrim a 6 or 7. I find they are in completely different genres. Also some questions are strangely formulated,…
Wow thank you everyone for those kind words, very inspiring! I'm going to rethink at my strategy and at my learning program, I'm using the student edition of 3Ds Max. I already own adobe Cs6 Master (buyed when i was in graphic design school), Substance and Zbrush. Some people has contacted me in private to ask me more…
Update retopo'd in 3dcoat after I did some tweaks suggested by one of my teachers. Thats the low poly in Marmoset. AO baked out of xNormal and Normals baked in 3DCoat. Base color slapped on and a cavity map was generated from the normal in xNormal. I'm only getting a single normal seam and I don't know why. Its on the…
I doubt this will have much effect on performance but maybe?. It would be easy enough for you to bake with the various options and simply time it. Really if "inside then out" provides the best results thats what you should use. One of the biggest reasons that Maya is slow is that(atleast the version i used, 2008 ) is that…
