Try hitting the 'Zoom Document' button on the right toolbar beside the Tool palette. Also, hide any subtools that are not the plane you are trying to frame, and then press Frame. Then bring back the subtools you want. Your document should completely frame your plane assuming all are square.
Select your material and in the top toolbar of the material editor you will see a checkerboard button with a yellow circle in the corner. It's grayed out if the material or a bitmap isn't selected. Click to "Show Standard Map in Viewport". Also go into your diffuse bitmap node and set alpha source to none.
Why is the head the top of the bone chain? Normally the pelvis bone is the top of the chain in a human. There is a Link tool on the main toolbar that allows you to edit parents by clicking and draging from the child to the parent. If you need an example of a hierarchy, you can create a Biped system and examine that one.

What about Blenblodomo? I've made a small, small update which I've detailed up above. Next up, I'm gonna see if I can add expandable menus to the toolbar along the left. ...and still see if I can coerce Blender into double-clicking to select loops.
