@electricsauce Maya has a mirror geometry feature other than duplicate special, but duplicate special should no longer flip normals; I think it was fixed in Maya 2014 or 2013. Maya's modeling efficiency comes largely from it's patented marking menus. But strangely it seems most paid tutorials rarely use the marking menus.…
You will want a much cleaner base mesh if you are going into Zbrush to do some sculpting. For example on your edges if you try to add any wear or detail you are going to get some horrible deformation because of the polygon distribution (I assume) and the extreme sharp edges. You should take a look at some of the tutorials…
Its been quite the journey, I'm a drama queen, but yeah I cant believe after some of the challenges I went through that I'm posting the final outcome. I cant wait to apply all of what I've learnt to the next project that I'll start on Monday. Its a shame I haven't done anything else but the turret but I think it just…
No, ofcourse not. This is based of Hywel Thomas' true depth fog tutorial and I believe hourence's tutorial for water. It's a little heavy on the instruction side, but we're running it in a project we're working on, so far with quite acceptable results. Please note I have some parameters in there, since I'll usually…
Gerbeiter, For testing out baking on a simple cube try this: 1. Remove smoothing from all polygons (no smoothing groups) 2. If this is a perfect cube, there is something wrong with your UVs. The two shells on the right hand side are smaller than the other four. make them all the same size. In your unwrap modifier, select…
In an effort to revive this thread I'm going to post a bunch of cool stuff I've found about this subject: A tutorial on how to do the Guilty Gear-style cell shading: https://www.dropbox.com/s/65cwf6kjuezhwdl/GuilltyGearXrd_shader.pdf?dl=0 If someone can use this information as a guide and make a tutorial for how to use it…
Hi all! , im doing some progress. Comments and feedback are welcome ^^ Here is what i have so far: -I need to teak the texture a bit and the position of the rope, but heres the water well main structure. -Some substance designer textures i did for this project: Rope for the water well, tree bark and ground. And some…
Thanks! I'm pretty busy with classes, but my goal is to do at least one sculpt per day. The next few (read: probably two) will be skull studies. Made this one from ref, without following along with the tutorial: The tutorial I followed for the previous sculpt didn't include a mouth, so by the time I realized my sculpt…
Yeah, I'm really impressed with 3d coat, but it runs really poorly on my computer. My computer is really powerful as well, so its incredibly annoying that I have performance issues. For example if I use the sphere tool to make voxel spheres on the fly, if I simply sketch across the screen in lags or completely freezes the…
Well, if you avoid looking at tutorials you're going to have a rough time learning any software. Surely you didn't instinctively know how to use every feature in Maya the first time you opened it. Luxology's official tutorials are quite good as well: http://community.thefoundry.co.uk/tv/training/ I'll say it again, action…
