Messing around between 2 versions (linux and windows) shows the problem is related to screen tracking. The same thing occurs with boxcutter's array modifier. The fastest way to do it is this: 1) In Edge raycast mode (I) Alt+middle click one of the border edges. This selects the entire border. 2) Hit Ctrl+D. 3) Hit Ctrl+Delete.
