thanks again for the help respawn but sadly It does not work yet: btw, I am trying to save as a .targa file. Tried a .tiff extension and it gave me an alpha but I lost the diffuse color/texture.
Just popping a bit of fresnel multiplied with the diffuse in the emissive channel is a simple trick, using a very small number will basically nullify it sunlight, but will make it pop a bit more in shadow. Cheaty and not correct, but works decently.
this is some really amazing work...how long have you been doing 3d models, textures and been working with udk? also could you post the diffuse, specular and normal map for the tileable texture?
Yeh Yeh! Alright so almost there, got the Diffuse and Normal maps in for Rose and the mech. Tri count for the whole model is 603,814. Still want to add a lot more detail and play with contrast. Critiques Welcome!!
there is no feature to do gradients in mud... but you could use a gradient stensil and a huge brush to get a decent result... if i need a clean gradient i use maya with a side projection and bake a diffuse from it...
Here's a quick updated UDK screengrab: just did a quick skin/pose, still lots to do, still need spec map alpha maps, coat, objects, seam fixing, diffuse tweeking and shaders.
yea that is 2d, it says it at the bottom. Leagues of legend sculpts there art but don't use normal maps. they make ambient occlusion maps from them and also use the normal maps as a guidline to texture the diffuse from.
Bake an object spaced (or bent normals as its sometimes called) map. then take the green channel and overlay or multiply it on top of your diffuse, it gives a really good base to start the hand painting process from.
Thanks again everybody for the help! I changed the diffuse to a darker tone, and made the surface glossier. I think it still holds up very well, and it's far easier to read. Thanks again for the tips Quack!
Intersecting low poly geometry? Update video drivers? Time to use a sky light, switch the material color to white and render a diffuse/Fake AO map? Dunno really, haven't run into that before, weird...
