Oh also, look up finished car models online and look at their topology. If you get stuck with how to run your edges, looking at how other people handled certain things helps. Here's an example of pretty good topology with edge loops that run continue through each seperate piece. Found this through a quick google search.
Shitty rickroll of our first attempts at ragdoll created issues with player ragdoll rotisserie's was pretty awesome for a bit they'd just continuously spin for several minutes making a flapping falling sound like clothes in a dryer. (turn down the speakers it was a rickroll vid) also :( our game engine... [ame]…
Thanks for all the input, I've had a go at pretty much overhauling the topology for a better flow (thx ZacD) and also to minimize the longer rectangles. Managed to get a good basic sculpt out of it quite quickly too Any more comments etc welcome, I'll continue posting progress with portfolio work etc here and in the latest…
I'd say also to retouch the cover on the front. The barrels cover is completely fine. Also the work that went into this is intense, but one other thing I would change is continue to put some subtle wear and tear on the main part of the body to break up that one long hard edge. Nothing massive, but definitely a notable…
Thanks! Ah yes I see, like make the cables look more worn. I could lighten up the colours in the areas where wear would be. Yeah we ran out of time for decals but if we continue the environment I do think we need to work on the terrain a lot more! Thanks for your comments I will work on it :)
Today's update, been away from home for a couple days so just got round to finishing the blockouts. Yeah Serrife, I realised this, but i came so far that I decided to just keep going. I'm considering adding some shut office windows to the piece as an extra, as it feels a little too boxed in. Will continue on to texturing.
tnx for the comments :) Sukotto: yeah i'm still not sure actually, i might even go for a realtime head. The main reason i didn't do a gandalf is because my laptop can't handle the hair and fur. JinSuen: haha that's pretty old, it was a school exercise i never really continued working on. quicky doodle i did tonight
Thank you! I completely agree with you, the main problem is the lack of focus/direction/concept for it. I will continue to create a more clear concept now. I planned to do reorientation here for quite a while now and finally have the time, those diagrams are my approach at making the whole process more transparent as the…
I've continued to work on the texture in the small amount of free time I've had recently. At least the bracers, pauldron and boots still need work. I'm getting to the point where I've stared at this model so much that I'm not exactly sure what looks wrong any more. What does everyone think of my design decisions?
I'm curious, are there people who work as game artists up past their 50s and 60s all the way till retirement? If not, is it mainly because the industry is still young and is something we'll see in the future? Just wondering if people think this a job they'll continue to do up until and through old age or if they had other…
