Hey everyone, After watching the awesome video blog by Tim Simpson, I wanted to start applying the advice he gave. This includes documenting my workflow. I was quite resistant to this idea at first, being quite protective of my work until it’s finished. So this is quite scary, but good scary. Hopefully myself and others…
I have been using Maya 2015 for some time and the rate at which it crashes is astronomically high compared to the previous versions I have used (2012). I'm no stranger to going into the temp folder and resurrecting my file but 99% of the time the temp file itself crashes when opening. I can however open the file with Maya…
Well, it's hard to judge the accuracy of that truck without knowing what you're comparing it to. But regarding your other points... The flat matcap basically just shows you model without any shading, without any shadows. It's useful if you just want to check the silhouette of your model without being misled by shading or…
Hi everybody. I have been working on a VR scene for a whie now. The project is made in Unreal Engine 5. I started with the virtual reality template and I built-up from there. I would love to hear any thoughts on how I could improve this scene further. I would like to push the graphics a bit more but it feels like I am…
Thanks a lot alytlebird, the info is much appreciated. B) I really like the concept art for this scene. In today's session I wondered what the bar area would look like on the left, as it is hinted with bar stools but out of view in the concept. So i did a blockout of what I could see in the concept, then a 1 hour…
Thanks :) By the weather - do you mean by the climate zones or really by the weather? Actually yes and in this example I did this very extensivly because I had a lot of northern scenes to do at work and with this project I want to bring this to an 'personal' end. In the last few months I studied northern climate zones a…
After battling a while with how best to efficiently texture the buildings for our scene, I've managed to put together a working modular kit that just needs some more tests to make sure that It can create the building shapes we want. I placed a couple round the scene with some very WIP textures just to get a feel for what…
@Niknesh Great to hear you enjoyed it :) The scenes that I worked on for Tyranny, I would say ~80% of the models/textures/materials were made by me. Our concept artists helped out with some of the tiling textures and I borrowed some of our character models/armor for the soldiers fused into the rock in the top image. Beyond…
The major area you need to work on is lighting. Right now the Research Unit 06 scene looks unlit because everything is flat blue. You need lighting to extract the forms, highlight your materials, guide the eyes, and paint a color palette. Same thing with your Library scene. The lack of lighting is giving your work a late…
I really like it. Great modeling, some nice textures, good stuff all around, nice work! Crits: - The textures on the trees look a little photo sourced while other elements seem to be a bit more painterly? They could use some deeper details, they read kind of flat. - I think you could cap off the scene by creating…
