Forgive me for bringing this thread back to life but I thought you might like to see this. UV mapping in Maya in a few clicks with the new unfold 3D option. And for UV packing - http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145328
Looks like a default flat projection. Are you sure you're on the right channel ? in RTT>mapping coordinates>use existing channel >whatever channel you've unfold on. Changing the resolution shouldn't have any impact, atleast never seen that...
Is it considered fine if you just keep the interior edges/faces uneven? I've straightened the borders, pinned them, and then just used the Unfold and Optimise for the interior to reduce the distortion. EDIT: Okay, that doesn't always work too well. Some shells explode weirdly even if the sides are pinned. XD
I want to see unfold animation :) and also think that there is too much noise in texture.. Clean up and do only few of really major scratches on body and more scratches on foots.. Good work and nice unwrap I must say.
Seems like you just used 'planar' on some of those pieces and called it done... You should look into the Relax tool to fix that. If you crank up the iteration and amount settings, it's quite capable of unfolding relatively complex stuff too.
How do I unfold something like what I have in the upper-left? I'm working at unwrapping the UVs of the low-poly model. Anyhow, any help on the curving bit (on the faucet) would be appreciated. Here it is for reference: Thanks again!
so in the stream they make 3 uvset for hair from xgen in unreal. one of them is a uv of a all the hair flattened based on the scalp so the artist can apply noise color on the hair. how to unfold the xgen hair to that haha im confused as hell
You may want to apply a checker pattern to your material so you can visually see any resolution differences (UV shells too big or small compared to the others) or distortion caused by UV shells not unfolded as flat as they could be.
Beautiful concepts and block out mesh! I really like the shield designs. Are they variants or some kind of visual progression/leveling? It almost feel like an animation break down where the sides are unfolding to make the shield wider. Looks super cool!
Here is the uv for an object. Someone help me get it into shape or lead me in a direction after various failed attempts! This is after planar then cut and unfold. looks like a stomach and would rather it have more of a uniform checker pattern. Thank you.
