Hi GCMP. Here is a quick example showing where you technique can go wrong. We all agree that the goal when doing a highpoly model is to be as fast and efficient as possible, since this is the heaviest part of the asset creation process. Now imagine that you want some sort of hardsurface organicish shape in your highpoly,…
Yes in the highpoly, if the mesh is simple enough you can extend the edges of the highpoly mesh, or make a copy of the highpoly and place it on either side. You shouldn't need to do this with the lowpoly.
Ok so: Your unwrap is really bad... Really, really, really bad. You've got a massive amount of wasted space, each board seams to be unwrapped individually in some cases??? Everything is unwraped unique. You could probably get the same texture res with a 256x256 texture. I would highly suggest re-uving the thing, follow…
Update: I've been working on the main base and engines highpoly model. So far I'm happy with the result now I just need to work on my props to go inside the shuttle and the landing gear. I've still got a lot work to do, but I'm getting there.
Hello! Currently I'm working on a model of the T-34-85 tank. Recently I've finished highpoly and lowpoly models in 3ds Max, also added details on the highpoly model in zBrush and projected AO and Normals Map. Highpoly: Lowpoly: Lowpoly(AO+NormalsMap):

You're headed in the right direction. You're hitting some walls, but that's to be expected. Don't give up. You're going to keep hitting them, so come to terms with it. Learn to enjoy the little spurts of learning and small advances. And expect to hit more walls, that's how learning works! First, don't use the same base for…
A few easy steps for today's ingame art. Follow that and it'll all work. - First, pick your target. Browse your game library and find something that you feel has great on-screen impact. It could be anything : A first person weapon in UT3; a car in Gran Turismo ; a fighter in SF4 ; the ball in Katamary. - Study the subject,…
Ahh okay I think I understand. See, I have always recognised the preview mesh with the supporting edges as my high poly. So I don't triangulate the preview or the highpoly at all? And the highpoly, should I bake the high res geometry from the turbosmooth modifier? (by this, the turbosmooth modifier is only a preview, I can…
Hello everyone.I have a question.I have two subtools in zbrush.first subtool is highpoly model with polypaint information and second subtool is my low polymodel with uvs. My question is how can I transfer the polypaint from highpoly to lowpoly since the highpoly model doesn't have any uv.
