Thank you :) What polycount should I aim for if I wanted to import a mesh like this into a game engine? Should I get thinks like the red part of the knot and the Detail in the blade completely in textures? And how can I lower the polycount of the golden part oft the handle (sry dont know the word AS english is not my…
I agree 20k is a reasonable polycount these days, most next gen real time renderers can handle alot of polygons (possibly more then you would need:P) its the texture size and advanced material/lighting effects that really cause the significant slowdowns. That said I think its optimised pretty much as good as it could be…
Sharma, the middle east is certainly looking good and shows a lot of potential for a game environment.I would recommend you to go for a more stronger lighting for this level,as i am sure you know that the middle east is scorching all the time.I believe you have a tried an evening/early morning setup, but still some areas are…

Is bringing substance textures into Maya easy enough? And can I get similar results to what I would get in Marvelous? Its quite a lot of hair ( fur on a jacket) so converting the hair to geo might be too heavy.
Ah that makes sense respawn, but how can I safely add that geo? I will try why I get home but with smoothing if even 2 edges are too close/too far apart you get a shading issue
It seems like Source mods are probably the best bet for going commercial, eventually. Still, it's a long shot and mods are probably best approached from a hobbyist / getting experience point of view rather than to go commercial and "get rich."
Techniques are like asshole and opinions, everyone's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks. I think it's time we update each other with the techniques we're using to cope with the current gen of graphics. Here's mine. Assuming I'm modeling from scratch: -Use splines and surfaces to build up dense geometry…
The last post was spot on thanks everyone, this programs saving me hours of time already so im thinking of trying to delve deeper in th 30 day trial i have! Trying to make a string that would go around a waist and have a knot at the front that dangles, it seems too look rather off even with no knot in place and worse can…
You retopo it as simple as possible. Determine which details are necessary to exist in the lo poly geo. The rest gets baked. Any repeating elements you bake once and duplicate afterwards. 3d does take ages. Just got to get used to that.
