I don't know if this is right place but just a WARNING for fellow freelancers. Stay away from company Creatives in the attic. I did freelancing for them and they end up owning me payment for 2 projects. They stopped answering emails and banned me from their private forum. Please spread the word i don't want anyone to get…
I used to work in hardware repair. So the the closest thing I got to creating things was 'creative repairing' when we didn't have replacement parts and an angry customer. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/digitalfoundry-inside-raspberry-pi They are claiming the CPU/GPU performance should be better than the Iphone 4S.…
AAAAAND then we have this: https://flippednormals.com/blog/the-creative-students-handbook-reels-portfolios/ An article by someone working in film, who says your showreel is the most important thing in the world. And here lies the problem... I would be absolutely confident that i could put $1000 down as a bet, that this is…
Guys! great creativity! I join those who are excited about this; this problem puzzled me since I learned the normals and shading stuff (6 years ago). And I have to say, I was totally lobotomized by all the next gen detailed normal map stuff to ever think out of the box like you did! you just blowed my mind! Thx!
@adam , I'm glad you asked! I'm using the vertex color technique from Homeworld 2, as described in this article: http://simonschreibt.de/gat/homeworld-2-backgrounds/ For the base image, I'm using a creative commons picture of the milky way with a bunch of smart blur and noise reduction filters to remove the stars. The…
Very much this. After looking at a lot of examples for what other people do...I made sure to not just...know what nodes to use for a given result...but to really understand how everything is getting manipulated. Once you get a good understanding of how the basic math works...you can get creative and do whatever you need to…
Not a free option but I found this resource invaluable when I was studying Industrial Design, http://www.designsketching.com/ The book Design Sketching really breaks down the ideation process. It's nice dealing only with the abstraction of a pencil and a piece of paper. Sometimes clearing your head and thinking things out…
Nice write up and a good mix of technical tips and rationale for creative decisions. I agree with BradMyers82 that the end is abrupt. It would be nice to see a conclusion with a post-mortem, but I'm guessing you're a bit burnt out on the whole thing. What did you use for the page layouts? InDesign or... ? Goes without…
You could get creative and build this in a modular way, ie: a set of two windows is a tiling texture. Then, make a clean and a dirty version (dirty version full of rust and wear), and use a blended (texture or vertex based) material to mask between the two texture sets to give it unique wear. To make it more unique, put…
The best AI I ever saw was from DOOM3. I mean think about it, you hide in the dark, the monsters can still see you because...well...they're monsters (demons IIRC) and all they really wanted to do was kill you, so the beeline worker wonders. It just shows how a little creative excuse can be an excuse for bad AI /sacrasm.
