I was tossing and turning on trying to weigh out if it was smart to make the move or not (as a fellow Maya user.) I think the honest answer is, what exactly your trying to accomplish? Personally I've been working freelance and contract with using 3D in more than just games (Arch Vis, Product Design, etc), so the decision…
I think you should look to get a card with 2GB of Vram. Something like a EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti 2GB would be ideal. For that card your power supply should be 400W and have one 6 pin pci-e power connector.
So generally speaking you're not going to use 16 bit normal maps in a game engine. If you're working on something for your portfolio you can use 16 bit though, the only drawback is bigger file size and of course it takes up more vram (which may be an issue if you have a very complex scene). If it's going into a game…
Hello, Im going to drink a coffee with this interior designer do discuss the wage. He says to be paid by project a standard price or by percentage later. I think ill go for standard. But what should i be aware of , what should i ask him ? He said when we spoke online a sum that was low i think. Maybe he is unaware of the…
They are really easy materials to make. You could pretty much just use a Base Material node and tweak it to your liking, try playing around with it for a bit. I'd watch a few beginner tutorials on the Allegorithmic YouTube channel if you get stuck, you'll be surprised how easy it is. Here's an excellent thread that…
My bet is it's a unique texture for everything based on tiles and edited manually. First i don't spot tile in the path. 1 texture is vram consuming but requires less gpu/cpu calculations than several objects/materials with alpha, and well, there's only that on screen anyway. Not that it couldnt be done the ways you…
Finished texturing this morning and decided to import into Maya and do a test render (using Vray): Would love to get some feedback on this! Also any suggestions on how I could present this for a Portfolio reel?
Hey Teddy, thank you very much for your reassuring words! You really have a talent for boosting the spirit after a really bad week of fear about having to throw my pipeline out the window. The 1.9 announcement sounds pretty amazing and I really love being proven wrong about this. especially since I have to admit that I…
Prop Artist = makes props Environment Artist = does everything involved in the creation of an environment (models/textures/materials/world building/lighting/etc). Lots of environment artists get their foot in the door as a prop artist, however. Learning to model, unwrap, bake, and texture is definitely the first step on…
