Hey guys! here is a quick concept i did for the soul reaver rengar skin i'm hoping to make hope you all enjoy and it's gunna be cool watching everyone's work unfold!
just delete poligons from one side? after unfolding and proper layout, bake that all.. and after duplicate this part and transfer along the axis? (and merge the points again) that is the algorithm?
from the first image that was posted about this i was not sure how this would unfold and with the latest images posted im liking the way its going keep up the good work. :)
Unfold from strip should do the trick. Just delete all the backfacing geo that you don't need. Also you might have to break it into several islands for packing.
looks fairly similar to the "unfold strip from loop" button in the unwrap uv modifier. minus the relax part. unless im totally misunderstanding what the peel uv's does.
Unfold and flatten should work. Stitching sides together to get a big "+" shaped map that will wrap around your box and then rendering the UVs to texture is how I would do it.
i'll be following this... as more of a tutorial for myself as to seeing what ur process is.... look forward to seeing it all unfold! obviously i'll be following it to see the beautiful Gaussness that be aswell! [duh]
I know that in Maya if you still have transforms on the model like scale and rotate, that can screw up uv unfolding, does Max suffer from the same limitation?
